About this listen

They may not be made for each other, but animal instincts are impossible to ignore.

Madisyn Drake is a rare breed of cat shifter…a loner, unpredictably wild, and emotionally distant. A recent betrayal has left her ready to sharpen her claws on the next man she sees…until a prowling wolf with steel-gray eyes and a brooding dark edge challenges her distrust. No matter how fully he satisfies her touch-hunger, Madisyn’s not ready to open up again, even if it is oh so gratifying.

Bracken Slater has earned his reputation as an indomitable predator. Once broken by grief and guilt, he is feeling alive again, thanks to the heady scent of this independent feline. Madisyn isn’t interested in joining an unfamiliar pack, so convincing her that they’re meant for each other is going to take more than branding her beautiful neck. But when threats from both their pasts take shape, their unexpected destiny may be the only thing that can save them.

Me-ow!

I loved everything about this book! As always, Suzanne kept me on my toes and feeling all the feels. The narrator was fantastic!

The love Madison and Bracken had was not fast and hard, but slow. it was the kind seeped into every part of them. And where there is a happy couple, there always seems to be a jealous b**ch in the wings waiting and plotting to tear them apart. In the end, everyone gets their just desserts.

Here, Kitty Kitty

Overall a solid continuation of the Mercury & Phoenix pack stories. The author continues to integrate the stories and characters well, so if you've listened to the previous installments, this is a seamless pick up. I had to look up the cat species (no spoiler!) so I could see a picture. The only thing really for me is that I don't think Bracken was portrayed so emotionally scarred by events that occurred with his family before this story, so I kept trying to recall some of that from prior stories. Regardless, I found it enjoyable.

Great story and addition to the series :D

4.5-5 stars

This was a great story and addition to the series. I liked Bracken and Madisyn and enjoyed seeing them get together.

Madisyn is a feline shifter that has been a lone shifter since her parents died when she was 12. Madisyn hasn't had many people she can depend on but she did make a couple BFFs at a loner shelter she ended up at, one of which is Makenna (heroine of book #5 of the Phoenix pack series, Savage Urges). Madisyn now works for the shelter as well as bartends part time at a bar owned by the Mercury pack.

Bracken is a wolf shifter and an enforcer for the Mercury pack. Bracken is a good guy but he lost all his family to an extremest attack by an anti-shifter group. Bracken went off the deep end and hunted down and killed those responsible for his family's death but no one really blamed him and he's earned a fair amount of a reputation/respect because of it. Even with retribution dealt, Bracken has been dealing with mega doses of survivor's guilt.

Because of her BFF status with Makenna, Madisyn is decently tight with the Mercury/Phoenix packs. Madisyn and Bracken have been around each other and there is an attraction on both sides but overriding that is a friction between them. This has led to a relationship between them where they tend to either ignore each other or poke each other to get a rise. But, when Madisyn is attacked in a bar, Bracken makes sure he's the one to go pick her up and see her home safely. Bracken is more protective than normal and when he's escorting her home, their proximity does spark something between them, leading to a situation that may have moved things along without further prompting. But then something else happens that kicks Madisyn & Bracken's mental processes into sync long enough for them to realize they're true mates.

Both Bracken and Madisyn are a bit damaged, with issues that inhibit their mating bond but although Madisyn is a bit leery of sharing her life with someone, they both agree to give things a try between them. Bracken attempts to go slow for Madisyn's sake but it's hard, especially when both the packs find out. There is also some issues that are tied to Madisyn's work at the shelter and it drags her into some unwanted trouble, and by extension Bracken and his pack are drawn in too. Of course if you're at all familiar with this series, you'll know that the Mercury pack doesn't suffer fools or people that threaten those under their protection so Madisyn is taken care of...maybe a bit more than she's completely comfortable with at times. Thankfully, all issues are dealt with, both internal and external and in the end, Madisyn and Bracken are together and heading towards a HEA.

This was a story I enjoyed greatly. I loved both Madisyn and Bracken and loved seeing them get together. They're both likable and interesting characters that are damaged and do better together than apart. They are both strong characters but they blend together well and are good at compromising when it's needed. Overall, this was a great story that kept me very engaged and had characters I loved so I would recommend it. :D

Another good one!

Bracken Slater, wolf shifter and enforcer within the Mercury pack. Bracken hasn't been the same since the anti-shifter extremists gunned down his family at the drive-in. He has made a name for himself when he went after every extremist involved and took out his revenge.

Madisyn Drake, pallas cat shifter with no pack, works at the lone shifter shelter. Madisyn helps hide lone shifters into a new home when needed. When the alpha from a bear clan sent people to find out where she hid a bear shifter named Daisy that he meant to kidnap into his clan, Madisyn's life is threatened when she refuses to give up Daisy's location.

Bracken and Madisyn have known each other for a few years. While they are both attracted to each other, nothing has ever come of the attraction until Madisyn was threatened and Bracken's wolf urges him to protect.

I like how the author brought us a mate story where the couple didn't fight the pull and yet still gave us a slow burn love. Bracken knows he's still messed up over his family. Madisyn's shifter nature has a natural independence and struggles with trust. Due to this, Bracken knows he must move slowly but that doesn't stop him from staking his claim immediately.

This book provided a lot I love and enjoy in my books. The protective and possessive alpha, the independent and sassy heroine, and side characters that add to the overall storyline. I'm enjoying this series and look forward to the next couple.

Back to Goodness!

After the disappointment I had in the last book, in this series, I was worried that SW had lost interest in writing this series. Thankfully, this book was as good as the past books. It was Hot, as a shifter romance should be and we got to spend some time with a lot of our favorite characters.

This novel followed the typical Mercury/Phoenix pack pattern... the H/h discover they are mates, they both are both reluctant, at fist, there is outside pack drama that threatens one mate, the couple starts the mating bond but it isn’t completed because one of them is holding back, their is a pack battle, one mate is seriously injured, the reluctant mate realizes the bond isn’t complete because of insecurity, problem identified and repairs, bond fully snaps in place, finally they get their HEA. Even recognizing the pattern, I loved every minute and can’t wait for the next book released.

This is my all time favorite shifter series and I’ll be devastated when it finally ends.

👍👍👍ed it!

This book is the first one I have listened and read in this series well worth it. Jill did an excellent job narrating the different characters. I loved having both the audio and book. Bracken and Madisyn are awesome together. Fast moving, well written and darn sexy. Not for the kitties. Thanks Amazon for recommending this! Thanks Suzanne.
