About this listen

They started as soldiers. They became elite warriors. Now they are The Outcasts: The heroes the world will never know...

Their Mission: Blow up a secret Iranian biological warfare site with a suitcase-sized nuke. The Catch: Getting out alive . . . then going back for more. . .

Drawn from the elite SEAL Team Six, these men and women are working deep in a program called Bitter Ash: taking on the kind of missions that, if they were exposed, will always be denied. For these warriors, every op is the highest possible risk and any moment could be the last. So they deal with it. And then wait for the next call.

Now the call has them parachuting into a harsh desert on the border with Afghanistan, meeting a beautiful agent who will lead them to a top-secret Iranian site that must be totally destroyed. For Alex Brandenberg and his fellow SEALs, this mission is like most others: Nothing goes according to plan. And when they’re done, they’ve only just begun.

Going back into Iran for a second time brings Brandenberg and his team face-to-face with a maniacal Revolutionary Guard officer who knows Alex’s identity and is hot on his trail. The SEALs must free a hostage in Lebanon. Then the fight takes them halfway around the world - in a frantic battle of courage and fighting skill that America cannot afford to lose. . .

Code Black

This follows the first novel, Outcasts, where 3 men and 1 woman had been left go from SEAL Team Six. They proved their importance as a team while on a black ops mission and were able to reenter SEAL Team Six but with one condition. Their operations were black, their missions never happened. These were the only kind of missions these SEAL Team Six operators could participate in. Keeping their missions secret was of paramount importance.

Their mission this time would lead them into Iraq to eliminate a laboratory developing a more potent form of black death for the express purpose of killing at least half of the United States population. They met with interference at every turn, creating more suspense.

The book was jam packed with action. The team engaged in many gun battles whereby the odds were definitely against SEAL Team Six. The team had to use their Hilo parachute skills to insert themselves into enemy territory and their deep water skills to escape.

The narrator did a great job, which made the book an easy listen. I completed the book in two days. I enjoy this genre of book. If you enjoy listening to novels about war, then this book is meant for you. This book is in real time but fiction. Fiction can at times go beyond reality but it does lessen my emotional involvement, which makes the listening more relaxing and enjoyable. I listen more intensely when a book is reality. The memoir stirs different emotions.

An enjoyable book and series

This book and series provide plenty of action and very likable characters. My only complaint is that the authors have yet to develop nail biting suspense. And they could provide more detail. It is almost feels like they tell the story too quickly. I can't wait though for the next book because overall this series delivers.

Must be prepared to suspend your belief system.

What was most disappointing about Howard E. Wasdin and Stephen Templin ’s story?

The exploits of the main characters were unbelievable. Having read many books on US Navy Seals, I have a hard time believing that they would send a SEAL and a female in to attack a heavily guarded bldg.

Explosions and orgasms

A shallow, sick read. A waste of time, although the plot would lend itself to a less worldly writer.

Some aspects are not realistic

I did not like the unrealistic use of characters in the plot that detracted from the story.
