About this listen

A man of sin

Devastatingly handsome. Vain. Unscrupulous. Valentine Napier, the Duke of Montgomery, is the man London whispers about in boudoirs and back alleys. A notorious rake and blackmailer, Montgomery has returned from exile intent on seeking revenge on those who have wronged him. But what he finds in his own bedroom may lay waste to all his plans.

A woman of honor

Born a bastard, housekeeper Bridget Crumb is clever, bold, and fiercely loyal. When her aristocratic mother becomes the target of extortion, Bridget joins the Duke of Montgomery's household to search for the incriminating evidence—and uncovers something far more dangerous.

A secret that threatens to destroy them both

Astonished by the deceptively prim—and surprisingly witty—domestic spy in his chambers, Montgomery is intrigued. And try as she might, Bridget can't resist the slyly charming duke. Now, as the two begin their treacherous game of cat and mouse, they soon realize that they both have secrets—and neither may be as nefarious—or as innocent—as they appear....

One of the best of the Maiden Lane Series

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I would recommend this book because the hero and heroine are so very different from many in the other romance/regency books I've read. I love that the hero is so very handsome and vain, but the heroine is not the goddess most heroines are. And, their interactions are funny, such as his reaction when he learns what her name is.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I loved both the hero and heroine because they weren't typical.

Have you listened to any of Ashford McNab’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

The performance was splendid.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Absolutely.

Any additional comments?

Looking forward to the next Elizabeth Hoyt Maiden Lane release next August. Praying Audible will have it.

Great stand alone book in a good series

Any additional comments?
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The H and H had good chemistry. Both were strong and well developed characters. The plot is paced and not rushed. It held my interest through out. The narrator is good.

Favorite book yet

I love Elizabeth Hoyt books. After reading the previous Maiden Lane novels and already being introduced to the Duke, I loved this story about him. I love how flamboyant he is and it fits perfectly with the past books.

Faith and Redemption

This is the second time I've listened to this book. I love the series, but this book is my favorite. It's well written with strong characters and a brilliant plot. The narrator is very good and her accents are authentic. If you enjoy complicated emotions with an HEA, I highly recommend this book.

Lots of fun!

This book really kept me tied to the unique dialogue between the heroine and the anti-hero/anti-villian - the writer & narrator were wonderful! Try this if you want something different!

Not your typical romance storyline

I'm not sure how to categorize this one. I think I liked it.the intimate scenes were very explicit. I'm not sure the author explained well enough why this duke was willing and desired to spend tome with his housekeeper. All in all not bad.

Awesome as only Hoyt/McNab can do

I must say I love the maiden series more than any other. I love the duo team. Please always have Ashford McNab always do your reading for this author. This book is not my favorite of the series however it is full of info you need to understand the whole story of the series. Thank you and only hope Elizabeth Hoyt will make another series as awesome soon. I loved it 5 stars!!!!!!

BRAVO!! BRAVO!!

Love the characters. Val was a redeemable sinner and Bridgett was his saving grace! So descriptive, it was like a mini-series that I watched on TV. Out of the 200+ historical romance audibles I've listened to, this is only my third 5-star rating!
