Enjoyable

The only problem I had is that it ended. I think that these are stories of the way Americans effected the culture of this country told in a way I could get into the story.

One of my favorite listens...EVER.

What did you love best about Dreamers and Deceivers?

Such a great mix of history and drama. Really enjoyed each story and learned something I didn't know in each chapter. The chapter about Desi and Lucy had me all chocked up!

Any additional comments?

I like this compilation because it makes it easy to listen to and come back to. I like my share of 30 hour novels but every once in a while it's nice to have something to break it up.

History read without the emphasis on memorizing.

little snippets of history not found in text books with emphasis on seeing how our Democracy has operated in the past.

Yet another amazing book of lost history by Beck.

Even if you're not a Beck fan, but love history you will love this book. Actually even if you haven't liked reading about historical events in the past, this book might just change that. I have read Beck's previous book on historical massacres lost to the history books and fell in love with history told in this format . I am a college graduate, but have always been bored by history; that is until now. Here history is told in a novel form, or like reading through a well written biography.

Beck keeps his opinion on politics and social issues out of the historical accounts and let's them speak for themselves.

I loved it. It is a book for the family library of every American that values our freedom and has hope for our future as a strong nation. I hope that we see many more books from Beck in this style. I feel his books written in this form could possibly be one of his greatest legacies for future generations.

A treasure trove of great details.

What made the experience of listening to Dreamers and Deceivers the most enjoyable?

We enjoyed learning the details of things we have wondered about over the years. We grew up with Lucy and Desi it was very interesting to learn all those wonderful things they did.

Who was your favorite character and why?

We didn't have a real favorite.

Interesting and entertaining

Enjoyed this book very much. So much history I was not aware of. Well done Glenn, and great narrator.

great topic, great revelations, so-so delivery

What made the experience of listening to Dreamers and Deceivers the most enjoyable?

It had a lot of revelations and/or new/different details about well known peoples, places, and things.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Dreamers and Deceivers?

This is sad, but I waited to long to write the review to give you my best answer. What stuck with me till today is how Tesla and Edison fought and how dirty Edison got (using the electric chair as a way to demoralize his competition!) and over-all how even our most well known heroes were white washed and served to us as golden.

What three words best describe Jeremy Lowell’s voice?

Not that memorable.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Again, the part about the using the naming the electric chair after the competition and getting "tests" to prove how bad "Their" idea was, when in the end it really was the better idea.

Any additional comments?

If you don't mind, or even enjoy, changing your opinions about things you were just taught as "fact" (probably at a very young age), then you will enjoy this book. It's hard to contradict much of what is stated, as much of it is backed up with empirical evidence that was suppressed until forgotten.

Did you know that...?

Would you listen to Dreamers and Deceivers again? Why?

Yes. I know I missed several key elements, specially about Alan Turing.

What did you like best about this story?

It was educational without preaching. Informative without boring. Illuminating without the mandatory slap on the side of the head telling you to listen up.

Which character – as performed by Jeremy Lowell – was your favorite?

Without question... Alan Turing

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I felt smug... I felt I knew something others did not. I felt a tug at my heartstrings during Ricky Ricardo and Lucille Ball. Having experienced force exile myselfI all too well know the pains exiled parents and their children must endure to survive and prosper. History has a funny way of repeating itself and it did so in Cuba during Machado's time and again during Castro's time. My parents suffered much. I could not help but feel a certain kinship with Ricky.

Any additional comments?

Well Done!!! Thank you.

Gradebook for a family road trip

I have listened to this once and I'm definitely using this for our next road trip. Even if you arrive at your destination, you won't want to get out of your car unless you've finished the chapter. History presented this way both catches your imagination and your heart.
