Here's a quick "glimpse" of the story you'll get:
After the Necro-war, the kingdom of Miceara fell into ruin. The gateway portals are closed. The King's army is all but decimated. Worst of all, dragons infest the lands, leaving nothing but fire and ash in their wake. Disgraced and disfigured by the giant serpents, the King spends his days watching gladiators fight to the death in the Collesium. After receiving troubling news of more dragon attacks, the King makes a drunken proclamation. Any gladiator that survives tomorrow's challenge shall win their freedom and will be promoted to lead his dragon-slaying division. Avalon, a street-smart girl that trusts no one, sees this as her chance to escape the arena and leave the gladiator life behind her. After a bloody battle that nearly kills her, Avalon embarks on a journey that will change her life forever. The decisions she makes will affect the lives of every man, woman, and child in the kingdom.
During this high fantasy adventure, Avalon will encounter dragons, wizards, knights, pirates, bandits, dragon guards, and much, much more!

The narrator did a good job with the voices for each character, giving them their own unique feel and personality. Character emotions, be it fear, joy, despondency, etc., were well presented. He might want to tone down his voice for the third person narration, but it did make it seem as if the narrator was presenting a great epic to the masses.
The story itself is pretty good and shows good potential. It left me wanting to learn more about the setting and history, which isn't necessarily bad. However, some of this information should have been presented to the reader/listener in this story. Hopefully the things that were glossed over in this story, [the deaths of the prior Kings, dragons and the war with them, slavery and the Colosseum], are well explained in later books.
I say give it a chance. However, I highly recommend not reading the Publisher’s Summary, as it made me want to roll my eyes out of my skull and whip them at whomever wrote that ridiculous and misleading drivel.
A Promising Start

So now about this story. It couldn't stop listening, I can't wait for more of this series. A good book, but it took me awhile to get into it. I do look forward to the next part, hopefully it will get better as the series progresses.
The narrator brings the story to life.
I've recently had several conversations with people that have said that one of the things they'd like to see in a review is if I'd read/listen to it again. So I'm now adding that to my reviews.
This one I might listen to again. It depends on how the next part goes.
Reasons I enjoyed this audio book:
Wonderful characters, Action packed.
Bookshelves/tags:
adventure, clean, dragon, fantasy, open-ended, read, recorded, series, short, slave.
