About this listen

If you ever get married, remember my name: Max Henderson. In my line of work, you acquire a certain perspective on supposedly everlasting unions....

  1. Pre-nups are your friend.
  2. The person you married is not the person you’re divorcing.
  3. And I hope you didn’t spend much on the wedding because that was one helluva waste of hard-earned cash, wasn’t it?

But some guys are willing to take a chance. Like my brother, who thinks he’s going to ride off into the sunset with the woman of his dreams in a haze of glitter on unicorns. And the wedding planner - the green-eyed beauty who makes a living convincing suckers to shell out thousands of dollars on centerpieces - is raking it in on this matrimonial monstrosity.

The thing is, Charlie Love is not unlike me. We’re both cogs in the wedding-industrial complex. As the best man, I know her game - and I can play it better than her. But after one scorching, unexpected kiss, I’m thinking I might just want to get played.

Trite and predictable.

Big chunks of the story were soliloquies repeating the ideals and realities of love, rather than any type of character development. It was like reading the Ayn Rand of beach romance novels. Plus, I hate it went women are referred to- and refer to themselves- as girls. Once or twice, fine. But every paragraph, and it’s a little demeaning.

Decent, but a little bland.

I didn’t hate this, but it fell short story wise. I just couldn’t connect with the characters despite pretty good narration.

Jason Clarke was great and Pippa Jayne was good. I felt Pippa has a few inconsistent spots, but otherwise I can hear her as Charlie.

I just felt like it could have been a little more.

Light but meaningful

Liked that it was very light, but that there was a bit of exploration into what marriage means to different people, that's it's not just all day sunshine but takes work.

Jumped quickly

I love the premise of the book; however it appeared to jump really quick between chapters. The transitions were also jerky (ie it jumped from the brothers talking in James’ room to Max giving his best man speech) with no mention of the ceremony. Overall, the story is hot and done with great detail, it probably could have been longer if stories went into more detail and the transitions were done more thoroughly. Another example is when Max tells Charlie that his mom wants to talk to her, there seems to be such emphasis on it then it jumps to a completely different scene. Also, why is there no mention of why their mom has a British accent but they don’t? Overall, nice story though.

Cynicism + Romance = True Love

What a cute story! A wedding planner and a divorce attorney...go figure. One who is openly skeptical about true love and marriage and the other who secretly is. And the way it worked out is not what you would expect. Loved the whole book from beginning to end!
It had been a while since I’d heard Pippa Jayne, and I’d forgotten what a great job she does with her narration! And Jason Clarke is just everything! He made the perfect attorney in the book. Calm and rational, yet when Max let his guard down, you could feel all the emotions. It was perfect!

Charlie and Max

A witty, charming, and sinfully seductive story. The banter, connection, and palpable chemistry between Max and Charlie is amazing. Loved how Max called her Charles.. super cute! Kate Meader is a fantastic author. I enjoyed every single second of this book.
Jason Clarke is always phenomenal. Pippa Jayne is just as fantastic, loved them both.

Fun light read

This was a fun book to read. Laughed sometimes, got drawn in others. While predictable is was still fun to see where the journey went.

Perfect Audiobook!

I loved this book. The chemistry and the banter between Charlie and Max was just perfection and the relationships with the side characters was fantastic. I'm genuinely upset that I can't but a physical copy of this book myself because I want it on my bookshelf so badly.

Max is a divorce lawyer who was burned by love in his past, so as a result he's kind of just against the whole concept of marriage. Charlie is a wedding planner with a difficult past, but she believes in love and finding the right person. They're brought together when Max's younger brother gets engaged and Charlie ends up being the wedding planner.

I loved the interactions between Charlie and Max throughout this entire book, they were funny and heartfelt and the nickname Max gives to Charlie is just great. I loved the interactions of both main characters with their families and I love how they both just fit into each other's lives so easily. The story unfolded perfectly, the pacing was great, the story was well developed, and the characters had amazing growth.

A book I would 100% recommend to anyone who enjoys the following:

✔️ Enemies to Lovers
✔️ Weddings
✔️ Temporary Fling
✔️ First Person Dual POV
