About this listen
New Saucerian is proud to reissue the original version of T. Lobsang Rampa's Doctor from Lhasa, which was first published by Gray Barker in 1959 (and includes an introduction by him). This was the first book by Rampa ever published in the United States. After it was released, a very heated controversy arose, which is still continuing.
Rampa's contention that a Tibetan lama was writing "through" him, and had fully occupied his body, was not one to which many Westerners were likely to give credence. Many of them, however, were confounded by Rampa's obvious mastery of the subject, opening wide a door on a fascinating and little-known part of the world, despite his having no record of previous literary ability. No one was able to disprove his story.
Whatever the truth of the matter may be, it is right that Doctor from Lhasa be made available to the general public once again. It stands on its own merit, and is highly enjoyable.
On the larger, more fundamental issues it raises, every listener must come to a personal decision.
It is possible that this book may be the absolute truth - yet another product of the incredible powers of the holy men of the Himalayas, who are said to have projected their reincarnations into the hilly areas of America, to avoid the holocaust brought by the Chinese to Tibet? Could we, as a nation, be ignoring one of the greatest gifts we have ever received?

Story
T. Lobsang Rampa was preordained to be a Tibetan priest, a sign from the stars that could not be ignored. When he left his wealthy home to enter the monastery, his heart was filled with trepidation, with only a slight knowledge of the rigorous spiritual training and physical ordeal that awaited him. This is his story, a hauntingly beautiful and deeply inspiring journey of awakening within Chakpori Lamasery, the temple of Tibetan medicine.

Story
High in the rarefied air of the Himalayas stands the great Lamasery of Potala. Here, as a young boy, T. Lobsang Rampa came to study the teachings of the Lord Buddha. Through the eyes of this young acolyte, we learn of the life of Prince Gautama and his discovery of the Middle Way, the Four Noble Truths, and the state of Nirvana. Those who have heard of Lobsang Rampa's experiences in the lamaseries of Tibet will be greatly moved by this personal story of the transition of a daring, sometimes disobedient, youth into a serious, deep-thinking young man possessing quite exceptional sensory abilities.

Story
Winner of the 1973 National Book Award, Gravity's Rainbow is a postmodern epic, a work as exhaustively significant to the second half of the 20th century as Joyce's Ulysses was to the first. Its sprawling, encyclopedic narrative and penetrating analysis of the impact of technology on society make it an intellectual tour de force.

2nd book - continues on from The Third Eye
The story picks up and continues with a "Forrest Gump" like life story of this fascinating man who is in the middle of historic times, meeting historical figures. The torture by Japanese soldiers in this second book is horrific. But anyone who has seen today's action movies will surely be able to handle the story, because it is more about the personal strength with which all was endured.
No history taught me in early school had mentioned the cruel atrocities inflicted on one human being upon another when you give a regular person a uniform and weapon and an ideological sense of superiority, or a little bit of authority over other people.
The story describes the pettiness and cruelty but also the human ability to overcome and outwit. The dips back into the metaphysical experiences and training, and ancient human history were fascinating reprieves.
I've already started the next book, which continues this story, and in the next book, the uniform, weapons, and sense of superiority belong to Chinese soldiers who do their own horrific acts against Tibetan people. Why rape and physical abuse and cruelty is part of war is never taught in school and how it becomes part of a military group is a mystery.
I was in error in my previous review on The Third Eye. The third book is included on Audible. 1) The Third Eye (1956) 2) Doctor From Lhasa (1959) and 3) The Rampa Story (1960) are all available on Audible and make for interesting and illuminating listening.
I have found the listing of the books written by T. Lopsang Rampa at a website lopsang dot org. It also gives information on books incorrectly attributed as being authored by T. Lopsang Rampa.
With regard to the book about Venus, the publisher of that book and his method of producing articles or books was frankly discussed in John Keel's third book in a trilogy offered on Audible and listening to John Keel discuss his contemporaries in the UFO research field could be illuminating as to why the authorship of the Venus book could be questionable.
