Cute story for toddlers or preschoolers
This was an adorable story. It doesn't follow the typical story structure for a picture book (i.e., an intro with a quick leap to the problem, which is then reiterated a few times before the resolution). I LIKE that this book deviates from that formula. Dingo Toad Helps a Friend was co-written by a 7-year-old, so I'm going to trust the young co-author regarding communication and storytelling strategies that resonate with younger readers.
Another thing I liked about this story is that it did not provide detailed information about bullying behaviors. The listener learns just enough to understand that Dingo's friend needs help, but there's no list of behaviors that will plant seeds in the impressionable mind of a young listener. It's a sweet story that gets to the point quickly and still manages to be enjoyable.
Michael Troughton's narration was fabulous. The book also includes sound effects that help create an immersive listening experience and compensate for the expected lack of visuals in an audiobook.
I recommend this audiobook for toddlers or preschoolers who are at risk for being bullied or who are going through a challenging behavioral phase and need help understanding that it's better to help others than hurt them.
