About this listen

From beloved New York Times best-selling author Jenny Colgan, a heartwarming and hilarious comedy about a pampered London socialite forced to live life among the common folk.

Sophie Chesterton is London's "It Girl". She knows all the right people, goes to all the right parties, and wears all the right clothes...and her rich parents pay for everything. But deep down she suspects that her best "friends" - and her posh lifestyle - are nothing but shallow fakes. Then one evening Sophie's life takes a shocking, drastic turn, and her father decides it's high time for the party girl to make her own way in the world.

Forced to earn a meager living as a lowly assistant to a "glamour" photographer, live in a shabby flat with four smelly boys, and eat baked beans from the can - Sophie is desperate to get her old life back, at any cost. But does a girl really need diamonds to be happy?

Full of warmth and sparkle, Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend is a surprisingly winning tale about luxury, life lessons, and the surprisingly low cost of true happiness.

as much as title and a cover made end a tiny bit predictable (but not actually in the way I was thinking!), it was full of very unexpexted turns.
In one chapter there is a moment about who got a PHD, it was a funniest part for me, as well as a hint not to judge a person by a "cover".

not as predictable, as a title makes it :)

I really enjoyed this book! A new author for me; the characters were well-depicted and it was a fun ride!

I wanted an escape from soul crushing reality. My fondness for early Jenny Colgan books led me to this one. It worked. However, the heroine was a bit too young and spoiled to relate to. And the hero seemed a bit too detached. Quibbles I guess. The performer did a great job.

Cute Story

This was a wonderfully entertaining and delightful story that should be made into a Hallmark movie!

Absolutely delightful!

I realize Jenny Colgan has written more books since this one, but I just finished reading 12 of them and though I enjoyed them all - this is the best so far.

Best so far!

After weeks of intense stress and seriousness, I needed a book to escape into. I needed one that would carry me away with a sweet story and let me relax. This one delivered exactly that. It’s smooth and sweet, with just enough sad mixed in to keep it somewhat grounded. An enjoyable respite. Not quite as good as some of Colgan’s others, but endearing characters nonetheless.
