Ex-HOPE Activist and future dictator of the world, Rob Stone, is now a twenty-two year old college student at the ultra-high tech Conner University. Studying to be a corporate stooge in hopes of reforming Butterfly International from the inside, Rob has made some sociopathic friends as well as put most of his trauma behind him. All of that comes back when HOPE seemingly bombs his college to assassinate a bunch of future corporate fascists.
Implicated in the bombings, Rob finds history has been changed and new time travelers are continuing to play havoc with reality. His pacifist plans ruined, Rob has to decide to embrace his punk roots and fight fire with fire to save tomorrow.

As someone who’s listened to their fair share of audiobooks, I was pleasantly surprised by how Phipps and Martin managed to maintain the momentum of the first book and crank it up a notch in this one. The pacing was spot-on, keeping me engaged and eager to see what would happen next. I kept thinking “oh they’re not going to go that… oh, well I guess they are” and I think I exclaimed “no!” a few times out loud to myself.
One aspect I particularly enjoyed was the exploration of paradoxes, with nods to classics like “Back to the Future 2.” (I mean is it a Phipps book without SOME pop culture references?) It added an extra layer of complexity to the story that kept me hooked. The “who is the bad guy” narrative was also brilliantly executed, keeping me guessing until the very end.
Speaking of the end, it left me eagerly anticipating the third and final book in the series. Phipps and Martin have crafted a time-traveler’s dream, filled with twists and turns that will keep you on your toes. If you’re looking for a thrilling read that will keep you guessing, Destiny’s Paradox is a must-listen.
The narration by Gary Noon was perfect for this. His performance, pacing, and overall “feeling” he was able to add as Rob and the other characters were perfect.

CT Phipps is an entertaining author, who dives headfirst into whatever genre he finds himself in. Very true to form, using archetypes and tropes not as a crutch, but as a familiar hook to grab you and throw you into the story.
This book, and the first one, are the only works I've read by Frank Martin so I don't know what he brings to the table, but I can say that this series is one of the more mature examples of writing out of the Phipps camp. Which is a little ironic, considering that most of the characters are YA.
If you like speculative fiction with a heavy lean on sci-fi, time travel, cybertech, and espionage... that doesn't take itself too seriously, this could be a great book (and series) for you.
I read the audiobook version narrated by Gary Noon, who does a great job with pacing, differentiating voices, and emotion.
This is a great 2nd book int he series and I can't
