Relationships at it's Funniest

If you are looking for a light & funny listen this is it.

A werewolf sent to kill Morganna (King Arthur's sister reincarnated) just can't do it because she is too cute and ditzy. So they face the end of the world. You'll laugh all the way through this book as it reveals the hysterical side of relationships. They both are driven crazy by the other's thought process & actions, yet, are drawn to each other. That part is very true to life.

Nancy Wu is awesome as the narrator of this book. She had all the characters, speech inflection and story line perfect. She is someone to look for while listening to books because she can create perfect voices for all the characters.

If you want an easy listen & your day made lighter this is the book to pick.

Rape is not okay for a romantic storyline.

While I enjoyed the first story about how Derik and Sara met. The rape story between Richard and Janet was unacceptable. As a therapist who works with clients who have experienced rape, this rape fantasy story was more harmful than romantic.

Laugh out loud funny

This book was so funny the banter between Derrick and Sarah kept me chuckling out loud. The narrator did a good job in telling the story. This is the first time I have listened to Nancy Wu and will be looking for her in the future.

rating for Derick's Bane only.

loved Derick's Bane and the narrator was amazing! it was hilarious to listen too and I laughed through the entire thing. The Novella that followed Monster's love is what I have an issue with. While there was hilarious humor and the great narrator for it as well the "hero" of the story kidnapped and then rapes his mate because he believed she lied about not being scared of him. of course she is mad but starts to enjoy it so it's ok now. even after he tells her he won't let her leave but she can stay untied as long as she has sex with him. absolutely ridiculous and disgusting to write about. they both even repeatedly bring up the fact that he raped her! but by the end of the story she loves him and even after she escaped she goes back to become his wife. pass on that one.

Derik’s story was excellent!

In the first story we have an adorable story about a werewolf and s powerful sorcerous on a quest to save the world. Tons of fun!
My problem with the second story is that it went too far. But the audio performance was excellent.

Derik’s Bane is great

The story for Derik’s Bane is great but the book is an hour and fifty minutes shorter than I was expecting. There is a second book that starts at chapter 35-48 that lasts the almost 2 hours. No mention of it in the description of the book at all. If the description is updated to say bonus story or something then I’d have no issue but I don’t like the way it was just thrown in as a surprise. I was listening as I drove based on the time of the book and I had to pull over to pick something else.

Done with MaryJanice Davidson's Foolishness

What disappointed you about Derik's Bane?

I wish I could give a zero rating for both of these stories. It was the same ol' ridiculousness that turned me off of her Undead Series. In Derik's Bane the fate of the world is (as usual) in the hands of some beautiful, dense, powerful, but unknowing woman and she needs to be rescued from herself. And it wouldn't be complete without some kind of chaotic nonsense taking place in the meantime. Strong emphasis on nonsense. That writing formula is old and played out. And the novella at the end, Monster Love, was worse! It is basically about a woman/werewolf/whatever who was physically attacked, kidnapped, raped and held hostage by a deranged and obsessive man/vampire/whatever. And then in true Stockholm Syndrome fashion she "fell in love" with him, leaving her family, friends and all she knew behind for him. I couldn't believe it! I'll be returning this book and won't waste another penny or second of my time on any more of her stories. Maybe she's trying to lose readers. If so, then well done! Five stars for that!

Has Derik's Bane turned you off from other books in this genre?

No. I love the genre. But I'm definitely done with MaryJanice Davidson.

What about Nancy Wu’s performance did you like?

I don't have any complaints about her performance. It's not her fault she had to narrate two crappy stories.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

No.

rape is not entertaining

The 2nd novella is a vampire rapes werewolf female and they live happily ever after. I would never read this and I'm disappointed in the author who I usually like but am done with. Just thought I'd warn anyone who does not want to listen to a rape turned love story. This is awful.

Derik's Bane is so-so. Skip the short story!

What disappointed you about Derik's Bane?

Why in heaven's name would you sneak in the that short story "Monster Love"? I was "OK" with this novel ... not good but it was OK. Then the ugly short-story started. RAPE is not romance.

What was most disappointing about MaryJanice Davidson’s story?

RAPE IS NOT ROMANCE.

What does Nancy Wu bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She is a very good narrator.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

If you jump past the piece of violent crud at the end, Derek's Bane was ok.

Any additional comments?

MaryJanice Davidson: Rape is Rape. It is not romance and it is not fun or funny. I always thought the Luke and Laura "romance" was sick and I would have thought that we had progressed past this level of sick thinking.

Please do not throw this garbage into any more of your books or you will lose readership.
