About this listen

Every day another earthquake, every afternoon another wildfire. Welcome to the new normal.

Derek Agons doesn't care. He's just worried about passing high school. After leaving an extra credit assignment that could save his dying grades—and keep his mom off his back—he stumbles upon a hard truth. The natural disasters aren't so natural. They are the work of a dragon trying to destroy the world. Now, a talking cat is telling Derek he's the only one who can save everything. All he has to do is believe in himself.

Derek Agons Slays a Dragon is the first book in the Tragic Tales of Pandora series and the kicking-off point of Samuel Tucker Young's The Great Stupid Universe.

That. Was. A. Ride.

If you need an escape from reality, a book that is irreverent as it is comforting… yeah this is it. I fell in love with raccoons, cackled over a bear’s antics, and sobbed over the loss of… well. That’s probably too spoilery. The important thing: give this a listen. The production value is outstanding and the author/artist puts you right in the middle of the plot and characters to the point that you forget you’re even listening to a book— nah, instead you’re on the journey WITH Derek. And it’s a wild ride.

Endlessly clever writing with a captivating story

Derek Agons Slays a Dragon is the first book that I have read since my adolescence. During that period, I was reading series such as Percy Jackson, Harry Potter, Alex Rider, and countless others. Needless to say, this book was an amazing experience coming from someone who loved those types of "awkward kid becomes a hero" stories, but with much more mature themes at play. I was initially worried that I had reached an age where fantasy books couldn't interest me long enough to finish them, but this narrative had truly taken me by surprise with its witty dialog and complex characters. I highly recommend any considering readers to give this story a chance, because you won't regret it. I can't wait to find out where Derek Agons' story goes next!
