In einem Komposthaufen wimmelt das Leben. Viele Tiere hausen hier dicht beieinander. Die Maus Matteo ist nicht besonders fleißig. Statt wie die anderen für den Wintervorrat zu sorgen, schwingt er Reden. Seine Prahlerei kommt in der Gemeinschaft nicht gut an. Als die Mäusin Miranda im Kompost Hilfe sucht, verspricht Matteo ihr Unglaubliches. Miranda vertraut ihm vom ersten Augenblick und glaubt an ihn. Für sie will Matteo sein Versprechen unbedingt halten. Wird er es schaffen?
