About this listen

It’s Drop Night, the one night every decade when the gods hand out cards to a lucky few. If you get a deck, you’re a deckbearer capable of wondrous feats within the Great Game system. You can control powerful monsters and summon mantles that let you fight alongside your beasts.

Ethan Wolfe, top enforcer for the Grimm family mob, has already been overlooked on two previous Drop Nights. People of his ilk seldom receive cards, as the gods tend to favor people who follow their divine mandates, but that doesn’t mean Wolfe can’t hope.

Unfortunately, when Wolfe does get his deck, he doesn’t have time to celebrate. The rival street gang has six deckbearers and they’re cutting in on the Grimm family’s trade. Someone has to do the dirty work, and it isn’t going to be the spoiled children of Big Man Grimm.

And things might get worse for Wolfe when everyone figures out he received an ultra-rare card in his deck…

With hundreds of thousands of views on Royal Road, this definitive version is perfect for fans of Goblin Summoner, Card Mage, and All the Skills.

an excellent play on cards

I'm not much for deck builders in general, but this one was recommended and was surprisingly good. The characters are well thought out and grow with the story. Soundbooth Theater once more does an amazing job with the voice acting, love those guys.

Good but could have been great

I love the performances but some of the characters were so annoying (Michelle) I had a hard time finishing it. I hope the author ditches the goodie two shoes aspect so we can get a real story going forward.

Great book!

I very much enjoyed listening to Demon Card Enforcer.
This storyline is awesome and was an incredibly interesting book. It grabs your attention and holds it. I listened to the audiobook and found it difficult to pause for any amount of time! This book has immediately become one of my favorite litrpgs. Wolfe is fiercely loyal to his boss and the card combat is described so vividly I can picture Wolfe in battle with his growing skills pushing him to further heights. I highly recommend everyone check this book out,
Thank you John Stovall for writing this book

not bad

not the worst and enjoyable. the bad guy was so obvious that it hurt the brain with how stupid the MC remained despite the overwhelming evidence

what an experience

I'm not the biggest fan of card based stories but the choice of narrator pushed me to try it. I'm so glad I did because the noir style anti hero was exactly what I needed an. The narration was perfect and I highly recommend this story

Interesting card battling system

Some stand out highlights here in bullet format to quickly illustrate what to expect:

- A well thought out card battle system.

- Great card summon effects and voice acting from an A class cast.

- The unique story perspective of an enforcer for a well known crime family was a fun spin on a protagonist! Very well done.

- The quips and jokes land really well as well as the innuendos.

- The dynamic between Rachel and Wolf to be unexpected yet believable.

- I would suggest this for anyone looking for a story about a bad guy with a conscience doing terrible things to worse monsters than him. Think of an antihero with luck for days and a willingness to get things done!

Wonderful World, System, and Production Quality but...

Soundbooth Theater knocked it out of the park. Beautiful production.

The world is an amazing modern dystopian/noir cityscape. It's vaguely reminiscent of Shadowrun, and I really dig it.

The magic/game system the author built are amazing. There was never an information dump, but it's obvious the author put a ton of thought into it. I never felt like random rules came out of nowhere to save the main characters.

The story was basic and relatively predictable. Both the main characters were pretty likable. Wolf's character drew a little too much attention to his puns -- it's fine to make puns all the time but it was a little much to include lines like "... get it, heh!" after every one of them.

The female MCs are both fun. It was a little weird that the whole book took place over 3-4 days, but both the women are head over heels in love with Wolf after only having met him in the beginning of the book.

Overall, it looks like there are three complete books already published on Royal Road. I'm cautiously optimistic, especially after the last few lines of this book. I'll pick up the next one after SBT publishes the audio for it

Excellent, with a few flaws

this is an excellent LitRPG story. Well written characters, consistent themes, and a well thought out rules system. And the narration is absolutely spot on. That being said, there are a few continuity errors that jostled the story a few times. SPOILERS: the circumstances of James Lions' death change multiple times (throat slit, unmarked, neck broken). The MC says multiple times that he has only 2 Mantles cards, but he should have st least 3; the author seems to forget that Wolf picked up Fankie's mantle with his deck. I have alot of praise and respect for the author, but I hope his editors pay closer attention to his next book. Which I will definitely be buying.

Fantastic!

I loved this book over all. The were a few part that I felt were kind of off but I can’t recall why now. Over all it was great. I love this series so far. I’m not a card player so I was worried I wouldn’t be able to follow along but I did! I love how he acts old but he’s really not. I like the concept as well as the characters. Lots of laughing and some tears with this book. I can’t wait to start the second one!
