About this listen

Circus grunt.

Charmer.

Fire wrangler.

Growing up within the grind of the enchanted Circus Faire, Crew's unique talents have blossomed. Though, he's been warned that the King of Hawkswing is determined to eradicate a certain species, and for his own sake Crew must keep his formidable gifts under wraps. Relations between interspecies caused an imbalance of power and now are strictly forbidden. Dolorans, like Sage and her sister, are being hunted and persecuted because of their intense powers, leaving them no choice but to run, escaping the genocide of their kind. She possesses a forceful energy for good and evil. His untapped powers are growing stronger by the day. Survival will demand they rely on each other.

When Crew learns a dark wizard is holding his brother captive, he enters into a deal with him in hopes of getting close enough to free those he has imprisoned. Yet, what he uncovers is far more sinister than Crew could ever imagine. Can Crew harness the strength within him to save his brother and Sage and all those in the wizard's clutches? Or will he be trapped by the wizard's wicked plan?

Krista brings Defy The Stars to Life

Defy The Stars meets Carnival Row. There are many mythical creatures and characters, and the narrator was able to add differing accents that were advantageous is defining each one. Krista Walker, the narrator is awesome.

Pretty good story

Defy the Stars a decent read. The characters are believable and the plot is a good one. I wish the ending would have been a bit more explosive, and that would be why I gave it a 4-star rating. It was entertaining throughout and expectations ran high for what Kru (sp?) might one day be capable of. I recommend this book to anyone looking for magic, fantasy, fae realms, and coming-of-age tropes.

Mesmerizing Dark Fantasy

This was my first experience with Cathrina Constantine's work, and I enjoyed it a lot. Crew decided to look for his brother who might be held by a dark wizard. Sage was looking for her siblings, and she was concerned that they might be held by the dark wizard. When they joined together in their searches, chaos ensued. The world building was extensive. The characters were dark and complicated. I liked all the various and unique fantastical creatures that abounded throughout the tale. The surprising twists kept my attention. Krista Walker's narration was great, and her performance added to the story's entertainment. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.

2.5 star listen

A little too ya for me. I just didn’t gel well with either mmc or fmc to contemplate continuing the series if there’s a second book. Narration was ok but I did find myself drifting off from time to time. 2.5/3 star listen
