Practical advice for a common problem

This is a good 3 books in 1 bundle. I got the audiobook of this and found it very helpful to me. The audiobook is well narrated and keeps the listener interested. One of the key points I learned about clutter is my responsibility as "The gatekeeper" to my home. In other words, the less "stuff" we buy or are given, the less clutter we'll need to worry about. One of the main points the author makes is that we need to just stop adding a bunch of stuff to our stash! Makes a lot of sense to me. Another point the author makes is that we should use everything we have. If we don't use it, throw it away, sell it, or donate it. She even says if you can't get rid of it, box it up and put it in the basement. Put a reminder on your calendar a month later that asks "Did you need that stuff that you put in the basement this past month?" If not, get rid of it! Her 2nd book in the bundle is actually a workbook that helps you get started decluttering and maintain a clutter free life. She talks a lot about the psychological approach that causes people to clutter up and what they need to do to break that cycle. She explains the need to just get started..."if it's worth doing, it's worth doing badly." In other words just start, and consistently work on it. As I read this book I was thinking "this is just common sense..." but then I realized "I'm not doing any of these things....maybe I should take this advice!" One thing she mentions is she had 15 coffee mugs that she never used. 20 cheap t-shirts that she never wore. Keeping them for some day when she might need them. She realized these are things she would never need, and got rid of them and didn't miss them. I'm running out of space in my home, so now I'm on a mission to find those mugs I never use and part ways! Who knew decluttering could be so interesting. Surprisingly great read!

Decent Set of Decluttering Books

This three-book bundle contains a book of decluttering advice, a decluttering workbook, and another just for decluttering the kitchen. I like that the author includes a PDF that you can download when you get the audiobook. The PDF contains the full text of the books, handy to have for the checklists, quizzes, activities and recommendations. The first book of advice starts with chapters essentially on mindset, trying to help you get in the right frame of mind so you will not only start decluttering but you will keep doing it. Then the author goes into specific advice for bathrooms, bedrooms, and common areas. The next book is a workbook, or so the author calls it, though it didn't really feel like it was a true fill-in-the-blank workbook. But it is still full of great ideas and checklists to help you on your decluttering journey. I felt like a few topics were a little tangential, but she does offer some solid advice. I've read a fair number of decluttering books, and I like how she advises you to take the process one step at a time, as in don't try to organize while you're decluttering. I have a tendency to do that, and I know it can hold me back. So I'm going to try it her way for a bit. The final book is just on the kitchen, one room so apt to have clutter issues because it is a focal point of any household, usually used for more than just cooking and eating. The narrator does a good job, though at times she sounds a little bossy to me! However, if you want to declutter, this is a pretty decent set of books on the topic.
