About this listen
So begins the second investigation for strait-laced Carole and her more laid-back neighbor Jude. This time their inquiries take them away from their seaside village of Fethering to the small downland hamlet of Weldisham.
There gossips quickly identify the corpse as Tamsin Lutteridge, a young woman who disappeared from the village months before. Detective Sergeant Baylis will confirm nothing. So why is Tamsin's mother, a friend of Jude's, so certain her daughter is still alive? Why is village elder statesman Graham Forbes suddenly taking an interest in Carole? And why is the decidedly unstable Brian Helling so keen to announce that there is a serial killer on the loose?
As Jude sets out to find Tamsin, either dead or alive, Carole digs deeper into Weldisham's history and the bitter relationships simmering beneath the village's gentle facade.

Story
Former stand-up comic Juno Mulligan has been suffering a serious sense-of-humour failure. Not only has she lost the love of her life, but she’s having to relocate to the (admittedly idyllic) village of Inkbury to watch out for her elderly mother, who she’s genuinely worried might be marrying a wife-killer. She hopes that her old friend, disgraced-journalist-turned-novelist Phoebe Fredericks can help her crack the case of whether her mother’s perma-tanned, iceberg-smiled, three-times-a-widower fiancé is hiding a murderous past.

Story
Spencer Quinn’s first original audio short story reveals how everyone’s favorite detective duo - Chet the Dog and P.I. Bernie Little - came to meet before their first big case in Dog On It. As fans know, Chet first met Bernie on that fateful day when he flunked out of K-9 police school. The details of that day, though, have always remained a little vague (like so much in Chet’s doggy brain). All we know is that Chet had been the best leaper in his K-9 class, but for some reason he failed his final leaping test...and that a cat was involved...and that there was some blood. But whose?

Story
Follow the Angels, Follow the Doves is an origin story in the true American tradition. Before Bass Reeves could stake his claim as the most successful nineteenth-century American lawman, arresting more outlaws than any other deputy during his thirty-two-year career as a deputy US marshal in some of the most dangerous regions of the Wild West, he was a slave. After a childhood picking cotton, Reeves became an expert marksman under his master's tutelage, winning shooting contests throughout the region. His skill had serious implications, however, as the Civil War broke out.

Story
Daniel is desperate for a fresh start. So when a mysterious figure slides a note under his door offering the position of groundskeeper at an ancient estate, he leaps at the chance, even though it seems too good to be true. Alarm bells start ringing when he arrives at Craven Manor. The abandoned mansion is straight out of those old gothic mysteries: the front door hangs open, and leaves and cobwebs coat the marble foyer. It's clear no one has lived here in a long time...but he has nowhere else to go.

So glad I found this series!
These are a cross between “actual” mysteries, and “cozy mysteries. No gratuitous blood and gore and descriptions of violence, but not sugary sweet and silly. Story is solid mystery. Narration is good. Really enjoying the series. On to book three!

Gentle mystery well told.
I like this series because the main characters are so loveable, in spite of their peculiarities. The mystery is well thought out and plausible. Surprise endings but not unbelievable. Fun read.

Predictable.
Formula story with weak characters. Okay for an airplane read. Writing not bad but could be a television script.

I really like this series
I am really enjoying this series. I was looking for something similar to the Cherringham series which I greatly enjoy. Bunburry didn’t do it for me, but this one is very good.

It was to find a murder mystery saga set in a quiet English village. But I did find that tale in the imaginary town of Fetherington.

Potential
I’m not sure why I bought this because I had the same complaint about the first book - and that’s the narrator. He puts no expression into what he reads, it’s almost a monotone. In the end, I couldn’t finish the book because the narration was just so annoying. The actual stories seem to have promise so I may try reading them rather than listening to them.

Fun and interesting
Enjoyed this story with its different twists and turns. The narrator could have more variation in the different voices, he is a bit monotonal.
