About this listen

If malnutrition doesn’t kill 17-year-old Olivia, her search for security just might.

Basic survival is the goal for most after the apocalypse strikes. So, when Olivia’s father abandons her with relatives who can barely feed themselves, the resentment is obvious.

Hungry for something more than just scraps of food, Olivia meets the connected, suave, and handsome Nick, who offers her just what she’s after.

Nick seems to help many local women. But there’s something about him that Olivia can’t quite put her finger on. He makes so many promises and must expect something in return.

Will the lure of security make Olivia fall for Nick and lose more than she bargained for? Or can she stand to survive on her own?

Death of Independence, Book three of the Collapse Series, a post-apocalyptic, young adult novel. Explore the frightening possibilities in this tale by Angela D. Shelton.

An average read disrupted by hesitant narration

I am sure the print version of this is a better representation of the quality of the book, however, this performance was subar enough that it hindered my ability to get through the story. It felt as if the narrator and I were both experiencing it for the first time. On a positive note I will say she has a nice voice that will benefit audiobooks as she gains experience, or at least preps more before recording.

The author has a delivered good story here that is fit for youth as well as adults. It's an appropriate length and touches on deep topics. I did receive this copy for free in return for a review.

Olivia's Story, Post Apocalypse- Covid Like Virus

Parents- PG13- kept pretty clean but the story touches on drug and alcohol use and abuse but shows the destructive nature of them, and deals with human trafficking and the sensitive topics around it in a clean and careful way.
Language- none
Violence- some violence around civilization collapse but nothing very descriptive
Sexual Content- PG13- alluded to interactions but nothing in detail, beatings when they aren't willing to do "what he wants"

This is book 3 and while I think these can stand alone they really are much better in order. If you're looking for a post apocalyptic read for your middle school aged kids than this series is great. This one is about a young woman named Olivia. She's not safe in her family home, so she leaves and has to adjust to new life in "the Pink House" and not is as it first appears. Like the first two books there are great messages about living with choices and their consequences, importance of friends, family and God. There is a Christian element, that I love, because it's not overdone or put in a pushy or super preachy way. I would definitely let my kids read it.

Narrator- does a great job with the voice differentiation, I preferred listening at 1.35x speed.
