About this listen

Zoje Stage delivers another knockout with a blood-chilling follow-up to international sensation Baby Teeth, taking readers back into the unsteady world of a young sociopath who’s all grown up.

Hanna is no stranger to dark thoughts: as a young child, she tried to murder her own mother. But that was more than sixteen years ago. And extensive therapy—and writing letters to her younger brother—has since curbed those nasty tendencies.

Now twenty-four, Hanna is living an outwardly normal life of domestic content. Married to real estate agent Jacob, she’s also stepmother to his teenage daughter Joelle. They live in a beautiful home, and Hanna loves her career as a phlebotomist—a job perfectly suited to her occasional need to hurt people.

But when Joelle begins to change in ways that don’t suit Hanna’s purposes, her carefully planned existence threatens to come apart. With life slipping out of her control, Hanna reverts to old habits, determined to manipulate the events and people around her. And the only thing worse than a baby sociopath is a fully grown one.

With its dark humor and chillingly seductive protagonist, Dear Hanna is a standalone sequel sure to thrill returning and new readers alike.

Critic reviews

“All will squirm uncomfortably and yet be unwilling to look away, furiously turning the pages until the final twist is revealed. A great choice for those who enjoy the work of Sarah Pinborough, Catriona Ward, and Katrina Monroe.” Booklist

“Original, memorable, deftly crafted, horrifically chilling, Dear Hanna is a simply riveting read from start to finish…Very highly recommended…” Midwest Book Review

“Once you get inside the head of this suburban whirlpool of psychological madness, there is no escape until the shocking final pages.” —Daniel Kraus, New York Times bestselling author of Whalefall

Couldn't stop listening!

I love the twist at the end, although I guessed it; just didn't know how it would be inserted about the brother. Great story and performance.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Twisty! Big Hanna fan. I thought more would happen at the end though. I didn’t read the first one and didn’t think I missed out on anything.

Phenomenal

If you are looking for a good audiobook for the upcoming holiday season or for yourself or both, don’t sleep on this one!

Zoje Stage creates beautifully intricate, suspenseful, borderline supernatural/spooky stories that keep you hooked.

When I saw this title, I didn’t even have to think twice before purchasing !

You become invested in even the worst of characters. You borderline root for them lol that’s how good she is with her character development.

Good overall w/ plot holes and inconsistencies

On the heels of listening to Baby Teeth, I was excited about this one. Sadly, I was a bit disappointed… First with a couple of key inconsistencies- 1) the pronunciation of Hanna‘s maiden name should not be Jansen (hard J) but Yansen (it’s Swedish), and 2) her little bumble beast’s name is Scoog not Scog. Those were two key details that bothered me throughout the entire book. Also the format of the letters back and forth became a bit tired and almost led me to return the title. And finally ***SPOILER ALERT*** it was completely implausible that Hanna’s parents would let her babysit Goose, especially given her past, because they had visited her at the school when they told her they were having another baby. She was 10 when she left that school so that means if he was a toddler when he died, she couldn’t have been more than 11 or 12 when they let her babysit him. That just seems way too young and just not believable. How could a mother, whose daughter tried to kill her and was freshly out of a mental institution, let that daughter babysit her small son??? The end gained this book another star, but overall it seems like the two books are written by two completely different authors.

Hanna is as devious as ever!

This was an amazing sequel! Hanna is such a fun character. She’s deliciously devious and slowly unhinges as the story progresses. Zoje did a wonderful job incorporating Hanna’s past issues into this story in a meaningful way that truly explains Hanna’s actions and thought processes. Please keep writing Hanna’s adventures! Hanna is the female Joe Goldberg, and I love it!

Decent read

I LOVE that this takes place in the Burgh, so awesome to see my neighborhood depicted. The story was cool, narration on point, tho they shoulda used someone with a yinzer accent to make it better, we don't talk like that here. The plot was ok, tho it didn't quite ring the same as the lil girl we met in baby teeth. Great book, but just like baby teeth, the ending was very lacking, like there really wasn't a real resolution. Idk... still a fun read.
