Publisher's summary

Librarians spend their lives weeding - not weeds, but books - books that have reached the end of their shelf life both literally and figuratively. They remove books that patrons no longer check out, and they put back books they treasure. Annie Spence, who has a decade of experience as a Midwestern librarian, does this not only at her Michigan library but also at home, for her neighbors, at cocktail parties - everywhere. In Dear Fahrenheit 451, she addresses those books directly. We hear her love letters to The Goldfinch and Matilda as well as her snarky break-ups with 50 Shades of Grey and Dear John. Her notes to The Virgin Suicides and The Time Traveler's Wife feel like classics that are sure to strike a powerful chord.

Through the lens of the books in her life, Annie comments on feminism, culture, health, poverty, childhood aspirations, and more. Hilarious, compassionate, and wise, Dear Fahrenheit 451 is the consummate book-lover's birthday present, stocking stuffer, holiday gift, and all-purpose humor book.

Totally captivating

I heard about this book on a podcast and immediately got it from audible because I love books about books. Author Annie Spence is funny, passionate about reading and books and has an interesting way of organizing her selections. I share her taste in many choices and will happily delve into those I haven’t read. Brava!

Literary Genius!

This book is a must read for anyone who works in a library, volunteers in a library, uses a library, or loves a library! Annie has an amazing gift for telling it like it is and really getting her message across. She is funny, and smart, honest, and blunt, whimsical, and emotional all at the same time and you can really hear her passion for books come through. I simply cannot wait to discover some new favorites and fall in love all over again with some old ones. Trust me you are going to want this book for your own!

I Tried

I wanted to enjoy this story but it tried too hard. I liked hearing all the titles and remembering if and when I read them, but that was it. Couldn't make myself finish even though I took breaks.

Siri Reads a Book About Books

I loved the playfulness of the actual book and the reviews given for most all of them. The list titles and categories were funny. I had to speed up the speech for the narrator, though. I have done some narration for books on tape for children in the past, so I know that speaking slowly and enunciating is important so that listeners may hear more clearly. I found it difficult to listen at regular speed, though. The narrator sounded too much like a robot...more specifically Siri. It's hard to enjoy a book read without any real emotion in the voice. I do really like the book and would love to own a paper copy, though.
