Left unchaperoned and stranded, Lady Lillian Lancaster has no choice but to find her way home and, quickly, before her reputation is ruined. Betrayed by those closest, she’s forced to trust the daring rogue who rushes to her rescue.

When the Dark Duke reveals his identity and proposes a false engagement in exchange for further protection, Lillian is concerned and intrigued yet enamored by the shadows which haunt his eyes and fuel the horrid whispers behind his back.

Clarence, Duke of Canterbury, knows his father’s death was no suicide and will stop at nothing to clear the family’s shame. He can’t believe his good fortune when he stumbles upon the niece of the very man he suspects is responsible. Not only does she hold the connections he needs to uncover explicit proof, but the very means to seeking revenge.

However, the more time he spends wooing Lillian’s trust, the more he begins to doubt his ability to enact the plan. Can their fake engagement stand up to dark family secrets? Or, will revenge win out and shatter both their lives?

One sit listen

This did have a weird start. Took me a few minutes of listening to get into the flow of the narrators reading the story but once I did I couldn’t stop. Loved the steamy ending /mane the cliff hanger epilogue.

Unexpected Love amidst danger, deception and more

Wow! This book had it all: love, friendship, murder, mystery, danger, deception, lies, and more

This was the first book that I have read/listened to by this author. Ihad trouble putting it down. I found myself shouting "no" at the characters a few times, lol. I loved Lillian's beautiful heart and soul. She truly cared for those around her, no matter their station or position. Clarence, wow. He was a man with one goal in mind, but slowly, we see how his true personality and nature overcame his original goals.

The narrators did a great job capturing the essence of the characters and the story itself.

I can't wait for the next book!!

Girl power?

The roles allotted to women was so very narrow; she had to marry to have independence from her parents; even with money sh was to be controlled... or was she? One feisty woman!
