About this listen

Loosely inspired by the legend of Camelot, Dark Sexy Knight tells the story of dinner theater knight Colt Lane, who meets down-on-her-luck Verity Gwynn on the worst day of her life. Evicted from their home, Verity and her special-needs brother, Ryan, must find jobs or risk being separated. Colt, who is the furthest-possible thing from a white knight in real life, comes to their unlikely rescue, quickly cementing his place in Verity's heart.

Colt has dark, deeply buried secrets that keep his smile hidden and his eyes down, which has kept people away, until he meets Verity, who seems immune to his gruff manners and taciturn ways. The more time Colt spends with her, the more he longs for her sweetness in his life and yearns to be the knight in shining armor she so desperately needs. Certain he will lose her if she learns the truth about his past, he must decide if he can trust her with his yesterday in order to build a beautiful tomorrow.

good story, wrong narrator

I couldn't finish listening. the story seems ok, maybe I will read instead of listen, but I can't get through it with this narrator. she has a very young girl voice, so when she speaks as the male characters, they sound like 12 year old boys... not at all what I want to hear as a "dark sexy knight"

A Viking Knight

Would you listen to Dark Sexy Knight again? Why?

Yes. I would listen to DSK again so I could pick up on the little nuances that I missed while listening to this story originally. I'd also love to experience the emotional roller coaster that this book provided.

What about Becca Ballenger’s performance did you like?

I like how she brought each character to life. I don't generally like it when a woman does a man's part, but since this book is told in third person, it works perfectly. She really seemed to capture Verity's innocence.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. I am a book fiend. If I can knock out a book in one sitting, then I'm doing something right!

The book was spot on perfect, wouldn't change a single thing...Grateful for the friendship and love Jo showed, it's hard for these kiddos to find someone they can trust!

Another Regnery Winner!

And Katy Regnery does it again. Delivers an incredible book that I have devoured in less than a day. I have to say that her Modern Fairytale series is what brought me to her, and her additions to this series continue to WOW me each time one comes out. Dark Sexy Knight is based on Camelot brings us to Colton Lane and Verity Gwynn. Verity is on the verge of being homeless, falling on hard luck while taking care of her disabled brother when she meets Cole. He is immediately taken by her, and does not want to be! Time after time, he is helping out while silently scolding himself, but the chemistry is too strong. There is much love, angst, hate, jealousy, bullying, sadness, anger, you name it the emotion is there. You are continually feeling each and every one as the scenes play out too, that is the magic of Katy's writing. I have to say, I loved Colt. To me, the perfect hero, anger issues and all, protecting those he loved no matter the consequence to himself. I have to say though, that I was totally taken with Ryan. The portrayal of this gentle giant, with his total innocence of life and pure love and joy with things just made you want to hug him.

This book in particular really hit a note with me with the characters of Ryan and Melody. Tackling those sensitive topics of mental disabilities can be touchy. These two characters, along with Miss Bonnie's home show us that the mentally disabled have feelings and have worth. You can't help but fall in love with them!

Becca Ballenger gives an amazing performance. Her narration is well done, with a variety of both male and female voices, each being distinctive to the character. Loved it!

I wanted it to last longer!

Although the author wrapped up the ending very well. I wasn't ready to let go of the story. I wanted more time with these wonderful characters.

Such a unique and touching story!

Would you consider the audio edition of Dark Sexy Knight to be better than the print version?

Yes, definitely. Narrator Becca Ballenger did a fantastic job animating the story and seemed especially authentic when voice acting Ryan and Melody. Those two stole my heart as much as the hero and heroine did if not more.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Ryan because of how he related to others in his circle.

What does Becca Ballenger bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She really gave each character a distinct vocal personality in a way that I couldn't have.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The entire epilogue really. Melody and Ryan's individual conversations with Verity were so touching and beautiful.

Any additional comments?

This one is tied with The Vixen & The Vet as my two top feel good favorites in this standalone series of modern fairytales. Bravo, Katy Regnery!

Katey Regnery hit

I want to say that the storyline for this was a slow start but that allowed us to get to know the characters. it made me fall in love with them an feel the emotions of the story. I loved it all, including the ending. I look forward to more of your work.

loved the story, not so much the narrator

I was not a fan of the narrator at all. She sounded too robotic and monotone throughout the entirety of the book. Despite that, I really enjoyed the story.
