About this listen

The war continues!

The Omega War is in full swing. Earth has fallen to General Peepo’s army, and the surviving human mercenaries have taken refuge at the hidden Winged Hussars’ base in New Warsaw.

On Earth, the defensive forces fight to keep the hearts and minds of their fellow humans, but Peepo’s plans are slowly converting the people to her way of thinking, and the Mercenary Guild troops continue to root out the forces arrayed against them.

Outnumbered and on the run, the situation is bleak, but none of the Horsemen like being on the defensive. When they get intelligence that Peepo is massing resources at a secret base, they decide to launch a decisive counterattack that may open Earth up to recapture.

Meanwhile, Dr. Sato, the Hussar’s brilliant but unpredictable scientist, unwittingly reactivates a 20,000-year-old doomsday weapon with a mind of its own. If it can’t be stopped, all the Four Horsemen’s plans might become meaningless.

Forces are moving both in the shadows and in the light, but who will rise victorious? One thing is for sure...a dark moon has arisen.

Such a good narrator

Have not finished it yet but just have to comment on this narrators skills. Just wonderful. Every species, every character has a different voice and personality. Fabulous job. This series is so fun, so frightening, so entertaining.

The Return of Four Horsemen and Hussars

Honestly, I'm not sure what to make of this book in the series. In one segment, the authors portray the vast non-mercenary Earth human masses as a slovenly bunch glued to their TVs and dependent on a work-free universal basic income with a mentality on par with Idiocracy and the locomotion drive of those in WALL-E. It was so absurd and I found myself siding with Peepo's point of view regarding the worthlessness of our race until I realized that, as of this writing, the COVID-19 pandemic has forced most of the western world into a similar existence. Who knew a book written over 2 years ago would sarcastically predict a similar event befalling humanity.

The cougar-like romantic encounter between Alexis and Nigel came across as an pheromone adrenaline-like rush between the two. Alexis, decades his senior and commander over 70,000 mercs, even swooned when Nigel gifted her a luxury spacecraft yacht that he had recently pirated from Peepo; essentially blushing as though it was a gift he had purchased rather than stole.

Still, these two side story arcs were entertaining and helped make the story more than just one battle encounter after another.

To my disappointment, while present, Jim Cartwright and his trusty Fae, Splunk, played less of a significant role than in the first book of the series as did his mech of choice, the Raknar. Even so, I enjoyed listening to this book as it did move the primary story arc along while also expanding the cast of secondary characters. Some who seemed destined to play significant roles in the future while others will bravely meet their end fighting the good fight.

Another good book in the series.

The series just keeps getting better and this book is no exception. Well writen and delivered. Great character development and the story is essential to the plot of the series as a whole. Highly recommend.

Another good addition! Can't wait for the next one

The story is good. They tie the series together well. Wish the audio editions came out faster.
