About this listen

Raised in the crime-ridden neighborhood of South Boston, Rebecca Sheehan has learned the hard way that people can't be trusted. So when her unscrupulous boyfriend turns up without a pulse, she knows she needs to get out of Southie. Fast.

She seeks refuge in the last place anyone would think to look for her - the picturesque town of Jackson, Wyoming. The locals in this small community live by a different set of standards, as Rebecca discovers when she finds work on a horse ranch. For once in her life, she's surrounded by genuine, respectable people - with one exception. Her arrogant new boss, Alec Westin, appears hell-bent on making her employment term as short as possible. With his self-righteous attitude, she'd gladly grant him his wish, if she wasn't so desperate for the job - and if he wasn't so easy on the eyes.

But after a chance encounter with his quadriplegic father, Rebecca learns the truth behind Alec's callous facade. Suddenly he is no longer a tyrant, but a diligent man risking his entire livelihood to provide for his family. Moved by Alec's fortitude and his father's warmth, Rebecca finds herself increasingly drawn into their personal affairs - and to Alec. Just when she starts to lower her guard, however, she discovers that her past is catching up with her. A series of sinister threats confirms her greatest fear - she's being hunted. It's only a matter of time before her stalker finds her. And when he does, she'll discover just how much her new friends are willing to risk - and sacrifice - to protect her.

Horses and Cowboys

Would you consider the audio edition of Cut and Run to be better than the print version?

I have only had the audio version

Who was your favorite character and why?

No favourites, all were good but did have a soft spot for the ill father

Have you listened to any of Holly Adams’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

The Narrator is very good, she reminds me of the narrator that read The Host

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Cowboys and Horses

Loved this book!

**I was given this book to listen to in return for an honest review.

First I will say, I love western romances. I was really looking forward to this book. As it started, and I found out the heroine was as young as she was I was very skeptical. I continued to listen and was pleasantly surprised. The book was very entertaining and had well developed characters that you felt were your friends. My favorite surprise was the amount of suspense and storyline depth the book had. Every corner had a new idea to think through, and the stalker....well, you will have to listen. The narrator had a very great array of voices and was a great listen. Would definitely seek out others by her.

If suspense, cowboys, and close families are your thing, this book is for you.

Good Story with lots of twists and surprises!

What did you like best about this story?

Great story although I am not certain about the age difference between Rebecca and Alec. She was very young and it made me uncomfortable at the start of the story but as it progressed I understood the reason behind that.I did appreciate the plot did not depend on multiple sex scenes. I am tired of authors relying on that instead of an actual story. With Cut and Run we actually get a complex storyline including a few surprises that I didn't see coming.I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good romance novel with mystery and suspense.

Have you listened to any of Holly Adams’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not listened to any of Holly Adam's other performances but will be looking for more books from her. She did an excellent job creating different voices and making it easy to follow along knowing who was speaking at all times.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I would have listened to this book in one sitting but I started late at night and had to finish it the following day. I will be checking out the rest of the books in this series.

Any additional comments?

17 – almost 18-year-old Rebecca leaves everything she knows and her crime ridden home in the city of Boston. She buys a plane ticket to Wyoming where her brother is teaching. She wants to spend a summer, relaxed and carefree time. She longs to forget and leaving all of the worries behind - especially those of abuse & neglect from her childhood AND finding her abusive boyfriend dead on the floor only a few months ago.

As she lands in Wyoming she meets up with her brother. She stays with him for a few days and starts her search for a job. With her love of horses it only makes sense to try to find one on the ranch.

Alec Weston is the owner of a ranch that needs help. While Rebecca gets the job, Alec seems to have it out for her, possibly because she's a woman. One day, Rebecca accidentally stumbles into a room and finds Alec and his father – who is confined to a wheelchair due to quadriplegia.

As her stay gets longer, she discovers more about her good-looking boss and does her best to help wherever she is needed. As her time to leave gets closer a stalker begins to hunt her. Alec finds out and realizes that his feelings are much stronger for her than he imagined.

Who is this stalker? How does she expressed her feelings to Alec? Will he ever share her feelings? Is she just imagining everything?

Amy Elizabeth does a great job in her debut novel in the Aspen eyes series. I can only hope that she will write more and Audible will present them as options for us. She is fantastic!

Holly Adams does well in her narration. It must be a difficult task to switch between a Wyoming accent and the complete opposite, that of a Bostonian. As a New Englander, I found her East Coast accent spot on.

I was given a copy of this book to listen to in exchange for my opinion, thoughts and this review. I can, without question, recommend it to anyone who loves innocent, western fiction.

Notes: There were some scenes of violence and a few mature scenes – but each were few and far between.

Delightful!

This book was even better than the first! More action, deeper story. Mark comes up against his nemesis. It grabs you in the beginning and doesn't let up until the end. Hard to put down. This one, I will listen to again. Mark's drive for vengeance fuels him and keeps him focused as he racks up the body count in his fight against evil. Good, good, good! The narration was even better. The first one was great too, but in this one, he really settles into the story and characters.

I thought you said "Staw"

Narration - Holly Adams - Pretty Good. The heroine and her brother are from Boston, there are ranchers from Wyoming and a cowboy from Texas. Her Boston accents were a hoot! Her neutral narration voice is wonderful, she's a good story teller and reads with a good even pace. I had no problems differentiating the main characters because of her wide range of characterizations. With that said, if Holly were to ever read this review, I would suggest more variation in the emotions that she portrays. This book had scenes that were sexy, suspenseful or tense, scary and serious. She read them all with a great deal of emotion, but it came across as the same emotion. I would especially expect the sexy scenes to sound much different than the dangerous or tense scenes - so, just my two cents.

I liked the story, but I'm not sure that I entirely bought the whole stalker concept. Why would he stalk her in the manner that he did? Why wouldn't he just call her, or confront her? That was all a little out there for me, but I enjoyed the rest of the story. Her relationship and interactions with Alec, his father and the rest of the ranch workers were really enjoyable to read.

It's a pretty solid western romance with a lot of tender moments mixed in with some fun and suspense.

A Multi Plot-Filled Story Set In Wyoming

This was my first audio by the author and narrator and was very pleased with the overall story as well as narration. I enjoyed the multiple plot lines which was nice because as one layer was exposed, the story didn't feel it was at an end and was just using filler until the word limit was reached. The introduced characters felt well-developed and seeing how this is 1st in a series, I'm assuming there will be more development with some of the secondary characters. I fell in love with the relationship between Alec and his father, Walter and it was nice to see a strong bond from a male perspective.

The narrator did a good job with separating character voice from narration, however, the voice for Rebecca didn't sound like she was from Boston but from Jersey which then made it a bit grating for me. To be fair, I'm not familiar with south Boston accents so it could be spot on, but I kept picturing a short buxom gal wearing leopard print whenever this character was voiced.

All in all, this is a great start to a series and I would listen to the next story.
