Publisher's summary

Ruthless. Killers. Bikers.

I swore off bikers and my family’s motorcycle club, and enrolled in nursing to save lives instead of taking them.

When a rival club murders my father, my brother orders me to infiltrate and avenge him. I’m the only one who can get close without being recognized.

Destroying my enemies from within won’t be the hard part. Hiding my identity will be, and it won’t be long until the Jackals discover my secret, and I wind up like my dad.

Inside their club, the lines between executioners and truth blur with what I learn about my dangerous and disarming enemies. We’re not just adversaries, we’re fated mates, and I’m fighting the mate bond convincing me we belong together.

Whatever happens, one thing is clear: the Jackals are my damnation and my salvation, and I’m going to burn in hell with them.

Cursed Mates is book 1 in the Jackals' Wrath MC series featuring a stubborn, yet strong heroine and four love interests with a guaranteed HEA. If you love shifters, fated mates, enemies to lovers, forbidden romance, friends to lovers, damaged heroes, and Egyptian mythology, this is the series for you! The series contains dark elements with trigger warnings, suitable for 18+ listeners. There is no bullying from the men to the heroine who treat their woman like a goddess. Ideal for fans of Tate James, Crystal Ash, and Grace McGinty.

This is the third series in the Godverse universe, but can be listened to as a standalone.

Mythology...

3.5 stars
Cursed Mates is the first book in the Jackals' Wrath MC. It is a fated mates, forbidden, reverse harem, mythology romance. You get rivalry, fated mates, magic, deception, and betrayal. It is fast paced and complex. What an emotional roller coaster ride. And that cliffy... UGH!

Stella Rose and Matthew Winchester did a good job bringing this story to life.

Not a fan of RH

Alea had not one redeemable quality. Not one. I'm not a fan of RH either. I wasn't aware it was a RH until I started listening to it. Slade was so selfish he was the least of my favorite. With RH's the men do not get enough attention and they deserve attention. The Jackels were bad men doing good though. That was the best part of the book.

Quite the Ride

3.5 ⭐ 1 🌶️ 4 🎧

While it felt a bit slow at times, I really enjoyed this story. The entire concept was fascinating with (certain members of) a motorcycle club being avatars for Egyptian Gods, a rival that will lead to war and so very many secrets. The cliffhanger was a doozy too, so I'll be diving into book 2 asap.

I really loved Aaliyah and her mates. At this point I'm still having a tough time distinguishing the guys, but I'd imagine I'd have an easier time if I was physically reading vs listening, where I can get distracted. As a whole I love them though and I'm really excited to get to know them even better.

The audio was great. Matthew Winchester and Stella Rose were both fantastic and the production from Pink Flamingo was beautifully done, as always. I definitely enjoyed this listen.

Drew me in despite not being my typical trope

Very intriguing and drew me in despite not being my typical trope...but that was accidental as I completely missed the fact it was reverse harem when choosing to listen. The harem part isn't full force yet, as it is a multi-book series with the relationships developing, but the premise is definitely intriguing with the cursed part (not a spoiler because title). Plenty of twists, action, danger, and suspense mixed with the paranormal aspects to keep a person's attention. Admittedly I am torn between wanting to continue just because of the threats, etc and not because the relationship trope is not my cup of tea...so if that's something you like and you enjoy paranormal this is definitely something to look into. The narration brought the characters to life.

Egyptian gods, avatars MC club and why choose romance, add grudges and enemies to lovers but also fated mates and you’ll have this book in a nutshell.

I liked the premise of the whole Egyptian mythology (haven’t read many spicy books with that) but i do think it was lacking a bit of more explanation on the magic system and what was going on. I’m also not the biggest fan of Slade (Jackal’s MC President) (i hope i’m spelling his name correctly, because i listen to the book), he was one whiny toddler with anger issues. But i did like his use of guns as not for what they were intended.

On a side note, either it was me, but the quality of the male POV while listening was way worse than that of FMC’s. In the beginning it felt as if i was listening to the guys underwater, towards the end i got used to it, but it was still distracting.

Overall it was a fun read, and i can’t wait to start the next books!

Interesting

The narrators did a really good job telling the story.

First this does end in a cliffhanger but the second story is available. This is a RH, forbidden, MC story mixed with Egyptian mythology, slow burn, mates romance. I enjoyed listening to this story. Aaliyah is a nurse her dad was president of the Wolves MC. When her dad was murdered her brother became president and wants her to spy on the Jackals a rival MC and Slade the president who is being blamed for the death of her dad. She refuses. She meets Slade when he is brought into her er and he knows about her powers and asked her to heal him. Then she finds herself in there safe house when they rescue her after she was attacked. Since there she decides to find evidence to find her father's killer. Spending time there she sees everything isn't what she expected. I'm not sure if everyone in this story are shifters. In this story secrets are revealed, there is danger lurking about, magic, godsas well as shifters, alternate universe, Betrayals, lies, MC business, double-crossing and mention of violence.
This was not what I was expecting when I saw it was a MC story but I enjoyed it and jumped into to listen to the second part to find out what happens.

Action packed

Cursed Mates (Jackals’ Wrath MC #1) is a fated mates, why choose romance.

An interesting tale of fated mates with explosive chemistry, and non stop action. All of these characters pulled me in wanting to know what would happen next. A nail biting cliffhanger for sure!

Stella Rose and Matthew Winchester did a good job bringing these characters to life with this narration.

A dark, chaotic series...

“Infiltrating our enemies put me in a pit full of vipers.”

As you can likely gather from the quote I shared above, this is a SUPER fun, dangerous read. Great character development, very interesting take/interpretation on gods and as a result a fun spin on mythology.

I read and enjoyed this book years ago and always thought it’d be great on audio so, it was my cue to listen when this came out on audio.

It is a ton of tropes all wrapped into one fast-paced, dangerous read:

🏺 MC romance.
𓂀 Club life.
🏺 Shifters.
𓂀 Egyptian mythology.
🏺 Fated mates.
𓂀 Nurse FMC.
🏺 Rival biker gangs.
𓂀 Lots of banter.
🏺 Broken heroine.
𓂀 Secrets.
🏺 Danger.
𓂀 Drüg trade.
🏺 Magic.
𓂀 Enemies to lovers.
🏺 Slow-burn.
𓂀 Betrayal, lies, double-crossing.
🏺Mentions of domestic violence.

Overall:
Will continue to read on in this series, based on this very fun experience.

4 stars.

🎧Audio:
I thought using narrators with American accents when this is set in Australia was interesting and unexpected. It occasionally threw me off since it’s got Aussie lingo, but is spoken in American English—I’d have to remind myself of everything going on.

As for how I liked the audio … it’s a dual-cast performance. He’s great, she sounded rather robotic to me.
Overall sound quality was perfect. 🦩

Shifter, gods, motorcycle club, rh

Cursed Mates (Jackals' Wrath MC, Book 1) is the first book I've read/listened to written by Skyler Andra. It was not what I was expecting. I did expect shifters, but we didn’t get a lot of that. The Egyptian gods aspect threw me. I rolled my eyes at how the magic got them/kept them out of trouble. But as I listened, I did become invested in the storyline and invested in the characters. It ended on a cliffhanger and I look forward to the next audiobook.

Stella Rose and Matthew Winchester are new to me narrators. They did a great job bringing the characters to life.

Struggling with this storyline a bit

This is the first time I have listened to anything by this author, and I feel like i might be missing some background possibly. I know this series is a part of a bigger Universe this author has created with other series (According to description in Audible), so I think my confusion might be because I am not familiar with the other series?! Currently, I feel like there are too many storylines being meshed together. I was intrigued with the series being a motor club. The book starts out with Alea's father's funeral, and her brother who is now in charge of the Wolves Motorcycle Club wants Alea to infiltrate the Jackal's motorcycle club to get entail. Danny (her brother) thinks that Jackals are behind her father's murder. Initially, I was thinking this was a shifter motorcycle club type story, and I was down for it. As obviously there are mates involved and I am figuring Alea will end up behind enemy lines to discover the "bad guys" are her mates. Sounds like a good storyline. However, there is the twist that Alea and the Jackals are avatars for Egyptian Gods. They are cursed some how and must share her. I don't know how or why these individuals were chosen as avatars. That might be something i am missing in the other series?! So you have a motorcycle club of guys who are avatars for Gods, who have unique powers and can portal to places like the underworld. One can fly even, but they are in a motorcycle club where they have to drive fast to get to where they need to go (Why not portal?), avoid cops (example one guy used his god powers to make a bogus police scanner call to distract a cop that was pursuing him yet later in the book cops surround and arrest one of the avatars (why not use your god powers?) There is some far stretches that I don't understand being these guys are suppose to be powerful avatars for Gods yet they are making very human mistakes and getting into human troubles one minutes and using their god powers to get out of them the next. The whole time Alea is blatantly asking very suspicious questions of the Jackals while worrying that the Gods are going to tell their avatars who she is (being the daughter of the rival club)- it just has so many storylines going on. I am intrigued enough to give the next book a try to see if the storyline gives some clarity, but I am not highly impressed yet. I have listened to the narrators perform in other books, and they are both amazing. However, I think there may be some equip issues as there were times that they both sounded like they had colds or something. There is not real good transitions between chapters either. Like one minute the female lead and one of the male leads are having sexy time and then all the sudden a new scene comes up that is hours or even possibly days later comes up. No "chapter number" to even show a basic transition.

I requested and received a free audio copy via the publisher, and I voluntarily wrote this honest review. #TheFlockVIPReviewTeam #PinkFlamingoProductions #PFPAudio
