About this listen

Earth-2 is a world almost consumed by dangers, on the brink of civil war between the cloned “Tanks”, the “Natural Borns”, and the hybrid “Mules”. The only thing that has prevented actual fighting, a conflict that may destroy the young planet, is the existence of an even worse enemy, one that sees the three groupings as part of the same infection. The Regent and the deadly threat of the First Imperium’s robot warriors has provided sufficient fear and incentive to force the human groupings together, to hold off their own contest.

For more than 30 years, President Max Harmon and his inner circle have struggled to find the enemy’s location, all while keeping their own planet a secret. But as with all such things, an end must come. Sooner or later, the enemy will discover them…or they it.

Or both.

After more than 30 years of searching, of tirelessly scouring hundreds of systems, the enemy has found Earth-2…and just a few weeks later, a human scout has discovered the Regent’s location, as well. The odds of both discoveries coming so close to each other are astronomical, and yet it happened.

The humans must commit their forces to protecting their homeworld rather than striking against the Regent with any material portion of their ships. But Max Harmon is determined to strike, somehow, and a Mule-invention, a totally untraceable drive system, opens the door…slightly. Harmon plans a mission, 10 small ships, using all of the currently existing new drives, to strike at the Regent while the main fleet remains home to counter the coming assault. Only victory in both battles, the survival of Earth-2 and the vanquishing of the Regent, will result in a true human triumph. It seems almost impossibly difficult, yet it is the only way…the only way for humanity to survive on the fringe.

The two forces prepare, and the 10 vessels leave on their almost impossible mission. Everyone knows what is at stake, and they will all fight as hard as they can. But is it really possible for the humans to prevail, to defeat the massive invasion fleet and take the Regent by surprise…and destroy it? Or will humanity on the fringe be destroyed, losing all the advancement and scientific knowledge gathered by the residents of Earth-2?

One of the best books I have ever listened to

the story was riveting. it sucked you in talk about having you hang on every chapter to find out what's going to happen next. the author did an incredible job and the narration was 10 of 10.

Love this book, This series and this author.

I tend to be critical about the length of a series and in some ways this series could have the same criticism. However this book wraps up the series and even connect the dots on other timelines.

No spoiler alert but the epilogue was an awesome jaw dropper.

As good as the last books in the series

If you have enjoyed the other books in the series then you will enjoy this book, as I did. If you didn't then don't buy it and if you do anyway don't leave negative comments.

Spoiler alert don't read the rest until you listen book.

I hope that the epilogue leads to a new series, are the new aliens Mules that First Imperium created before the Regent took over? Can't wait to find out.

repetitive tedium

For Pete's Sake, I heard you the first time!
It's an interesting story, or rather it would be if it didn't say the same thing six ways to Sunday EVERY time anything was described, whether it be how someone's feeling or what's going on.
It would be about a quarter of the length it currently is & a much better story & definitely much less annoying.

it just seems to get worse with every next book in the series. That &/or my tolerance just gets less forgiving the more times it happens, because it happens so much. It happened over & over. It happened all the time with alarming rapidity as it happened so many times in a row. How many times and in how many ways, ways that weren't really so much different than each other, other than they didn't occur in that same exact moment, could the same thing be said so often & so very much the same? It was like I was hearing the same thing every next sentance with only a slight rearranging of the similar words, words that had the same meaning and meant the same thing....

You get the picture? If so, I suggest you not get the book.

Dear "Mule" author, Great plots BUT...

Great, amazing macro-plots that the author trashes with juvenile character dialogue and redundant descriptions. Book 1 the effect was acceptable, given the excellent plot. By book 6, I would fall asleep and miss chapters... and be grateful that I skipped the awful, redundant dialogue. Dear "Mule" author: your plots are amazing, but you're getting really lost in your own bestseller Glory... can't recommend the series, because the dialogue really get embarrassing...

What happened?

In the previous book the mentioned railguns, nanobot controlled humans? No virus to destroy the regent? it's like the author forgot when was in the last book or several of his books.

sorry to.say: weakest book of the series...

I've read all of Jay's books and have always enjoyed them. This one I could just not get myself to even finish.
if one could cut out the ever repeating (after the firat monolog there is never anything new to it) inner monologue of each *and *every *character including the robots, this story could shet 4 or maybe 5 hours in length. i really have to wonder where the editor was in all of this. I assume you have to hand over a certain number of words/pages worth of story but in this case making it shorter would have greatly improved the outcome.

I stopped with 5 hours remaining, it was just unbearable to me.

Sorry Jay, I am looking forward to upcoming books and series.
