About this listen

If Emily and Scott can write one more best seller together, the world’s their oyster. But each of them believes they’re the talent....

Emily was an aspiring literary writer, forced to make a living from editing annual reports, when she met Scott, a screenwriter in similar circumstances. With Scott’s punchy plot and Emily’s luminous prose, they crafted an international hit - and fell in love doing it. Three years later, Scott’s own novel has flopped, Emily’s struggling with her literary manuscript, and their relationship is falling apart. Can they overcome their creative differences to produce another masterpiece?

Graeme Simsion is the internationally best-selling author of The Rosie Project, The Rosie Effect, The Rosie Result and The Best of Adam Sharp. He lives with Anne Buist, a novelist in her own right and co-author of Two Steps Forward and Two Steps Onward, in Melbourne, Australia.

This project is a work of fiction; any resemblance to actual persons or events is entirely coincidental. Sort of.

Not my usual pick, but was drawn in by the performance. Turned it off at the middle, the profanity was a turn off.

Nice start ...then the profanity.

It was an OK story with OK characters. But, it was somewhat difficult to follow as the story progressed.

Finished but didn’t love

As a ‘would be ‘ writer myself, I found it interesting to read the ‘planner’ and ‘pantser ‘ profiles fleshed out and the upsides and downsides to both portrayed.
I read this because I loved the Rosie Project by same author. This story is totally different to that. I enjoyed it.

Interesting look at human differences

Found myself more interested in the characters discussions of writing structure and technique than the story or characters - none of whom were particularly likable. Recommend for writers and those interested in writing process. Reads like an exercise.

Writing theory in story form

terrible narrator, terribly Australian in that low hanging fruit way, nobody told em writing about writing is about the writing

oh my Godzilla

Boring. Ironic that the plot is so lacking and the characters are un-relatable. Disappointing.
