About this listen

She's got 99 problems, but a litter box ain't one.

In a world where magic is mundane, soothsayer Journi McCutcheon's love of black lipstick and sarcasm is the oddest thing about her. Being clairvoyant isn't glamorous, but it pays the bills. Mostly. When an ordinary sooth goes awry, however, revealing that a child's life - and maybe the entire city - is in danger, it's up to her to save them.

Only problem? Cats.

The hissing devils aren't her jam on a good day, but when an amateur summoning spell turns them into mindless beasts bent on eating toddlers like tacos, she's forced to act. With the help of a motley crew - her trash-talking granny, taser-toting mother, chain-smoking aunt, and an annoyingly charming veterinarian - she must take on the fiendish felines and the dark forces that control them.

Crazy Cat Lady is a smart, witty urban fantasy brimming with unconventional but badass heroines, animal-loving heroes, and mesmerizing magic.

Will Journi's hatred of cats prevail? Or will these killer kitties hiss their way into her heart?

I found the story to be very entertaining and fun! This author has a wonderful talent of creating a story that draws you in and keeps you hanging on till the very end.

Catpocalypse!

What a super cute story! I enjoyed every minute of it. It was fast a paced paranormal adventure. I found myself grinning and chuckling at the characters and their expressions throughout.

Very well written and kept me enticed throughout with relatable characters! Definitely a lot of fun, and festive too (since Halloween just passed).

The narrator did an excellent job, she took this already wonderful story to the next level.

Can't wait for more by this author and narrator!

riproaring magical romp!

Just in time for Halloween, an atmospheric thrill ride with loads of laughs! Though this charmer is not for little kids (blood and guts, f-bombs etc.), it's young and fresh, with a goth protagonist who's sardonic and tough as nails, but with the formulaic (but no less endearing for it) soft insides she fights hard (in vain) to hide away. The story happens a few years after the Rise, a mysterious event in which a big chunk of the (world's?) population developed a range of magical powers. With vamps and unicorns and such in evidence, too.

Our heroine, Journi, is a professional soothsayer, who gradually learns that a potentially catastrophic magical scenario is about to unfold, unless she and her gifted older female relatives, along with the obligatory gorgeous guy, can work out its source and then contain it. It involves kids and, you guessed it, cats. The story's great fun, though not for the faint of heart. Gory, as I mentioned above. But a touch of horror mixed with memorable characters and scads of humor, primarily in the form of witty dialogue, makes for a hella ride, as Journi might say

The great LYNN NORRIS, narratrix extraordinaire, gives one killer performance here, effortlessly steering among a heap of brilliantly limned characters and tons of breakneck pacing without batting a metaphorical eye. She just excels at everything: delicious, thoughtful characterization, deep understanding of what makes the story go, an unmatched facility for voicing people of either gender or sexual orientation, any culture, any age. I hung onto every well crafted word. Man, is she a gift to any writer in any genre. And sure as hell to us listeners, too.

A fine listen for a brisk, slightly sinister evening. Enjoy!

Journi doesn’t like cats or kids. So tonight is a disaster waiting to happen.

It’s Halloween, and not all the ghosts, witches and goblins are make believe.
Journi is a soothsayer with a big problem. she knows something evil is brewing and she’ll need help to find it, fast.
Her family owns “say it ain’t so”, their mission is to find and solve the mishaps of their fantastical world that came with the rise of magic.
Her mom is an empath, her gran is a witch and her great aunt Freda is an eccentric who loves cats and runs the refuge “the hissing booth”.
With luck and their combined skills this delightful, magical family will join forces to destroy the evil.
I received the audio version of “the hissing booth chronicles, book 1
In exchange for an honest review. I immediately fell in love with Journi and her wonderful family, I purchased the prequel, book 0 and I’m now waiting for the crazy cat lady’s next misadventures.
You will love this book even if you’re not yet a fan of urban fantasy,
It’s magic.

Loved!

Where to start? I loved the story, and the narrator did a terrible job.

The story itself was fast-paced, entertaining, and had me chuckling throughout. I loved the characters and how they interacted with each other. They were sarcastic goofballs who’d I’d love to have in my own family.

The narrator, a first-time listener, was so natural it was hard to imagine she was reading from a script. Maybe it was her pace, which seemed a smidge faster than most narrators I listen to, but it was perfect for the story.

This was one of those stories that were so good I had a hard time pausing it to go to sleep.

I’m definitely interested in reading more by the author and hearing more from this narrator. Great job, ladies!
