About this listen

FNH audio presents a reading of the revolutionary military guide on how to handle and run a counterinsurgency. Gen. David Petraeus saw a need for new updated manual on how to actually wage a counterinsurgency (COIN) conflict, as all existing military manuals were showing their age and out of sync with modern thinking.

With experience in Iraq and Afghanistan, he was able to construct the new definitive guide from actual experience and with reference to previous conflicts.

Please note, although listed as abridged, the only items left out of this narration are the extensive bibliography, source notes, and glossary. The full text of the book's actual content and appendices is included.

A great book that is fundamental to any developing young mind. I highly recommend this book!

As the name suggests, a foundation of counterinsurgency theory and practice. There is no one better to have written the baseline on this subject than General Petraeus; if you know his history, he has been fascinated and studied asymmetric warfare since his early years at West point. The book is extremely wide ranging, covering every aspect and component of what creates and fuels insurgency. However, the book does not provide specific examples in practice, it instead lays out the framework so that individual contexts can be applied under it's principles. An excellent and very detailed primer on such a complex subject.

A fundamentally important text
