About this listen

The ultimate laugh-out-loud, good life, meet the eccentric locals, house-hunting, foodie, travel-tour, fun memoir. There were highs, heartbreaks and cliff-hangers as British-born author Diz White scrambled between the Cotswolds, looking for a bargain cottage, and Hollywood taking every hilariously wacky acting job to earn the down payment. Her search doubles as a travel-tour and on her journey she was charged by Chasin' Mason, the bull, auditioned for a horse’s hind end and trampled by 30 children while wearing a bear suit. But her fondness for this region gave her a sense of community missing from her busy urban life. Will her dream become reality? Find out in this witty love note to the Cotswolds. A fun and informative memoir!

The story of Diz and Randy's sojourn was intimate and hilarious. The journey was certainly worth it. Diz is a captivating storyteller. I'm hungry!

Pleasing and often, hilarious

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, if said friend was interested in the Cotswold and travel and food.

If you’ve listened to books by Diz White before, how does this one compare?

This is the only book by her you have on Audible, so do not know. I think she is a wonderful reader and has a great, inviting voice.

Which scene was your favorite?

I liked the auction scene.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

This question is meaningless to me.

Any additional comments?

I found this to be a thoroughly enjoyable read, with lots of detail and hilarious moments. It was charming in every way. I would love to read a follow-up, once the couple is settled into their cottage in the Cotswolds. I'd buy it.

Fit my taste perfectly

Not everyone will love this memoir as I did. You have to enjoy just sitting and listening to conversation all afternoon. I now believe Diz White would be one of the best conversational afternoons I could spend.

This memoir doesn't have a cliff-hanger plot or offer deep philosophical insights. But it does offer the listener a wonderful few months of house-hunting in the Cotswolds, made delightful by the conversation of the writer/narrator. Highly recommended for those whose taste run in that direction.

Magic Carpet Ride to a Marvellous Place

Cotswolds Memoir took me took on an amazing magic carpet ride to the most beautiful region of Britain. Perfect for these days when travel is so difficult. Reading this book transported me to this country's area of outstanding natural beauty as I joined the author on her laugh-out-loud, often touching, informative, rip-roaring, roller-coaster ride in search of her dream cottage.
I could barely keep up, so fast and furious was the journey. Diz scrambled between Hollywood (where she has a career as a comedy actress and scraped together the money for her purchase, by taking every role offered, no matter how hilariously unsuitable) and the Cotswolds. Here she searches this halcyon region from top to bottom for her little bit of heaven. Fortunately, for the reader, on the way, she explores every fascinating delight of the Cotswolds including meeting some wonderfully comic local characters, sampling the (deliciously described) food and wine at cozy country pubs and visiting all manner of interesting historic sites, hog roasts, country fetes, hiking trails and much more. Included at the back of the book is a handy travel guide with the author's best picks of where to eat, stay and have fun. As if all this is not enough, cleverly interwoven in her story are her adventures buying a cottage which are really exciting, with so many unexpected ups and downs, that I couldn't put this book down until I found out how it all turned out.
So there is no need to pack a suitcase - just catch a ride with Diz and her enchanting book and you will have one of the best vacations of your life without ever having to leave home. This is such a well written, breezy read that I don't think I will wait until my next holiday to buy the second book in this series More Cotswolds Memoirs (already in print and ebook) - I can't wait.

Cotswolds Memoir

I really enjoyed this book. The author was the perfect narrator. I'm originally from England but live in the USA. The story made me nostalgic for home.
It was entertaining as well as very informational. Now I want to visit The Cotswolds. Thank you for a great trip

A lovely and humorous story!

Well written and read by the author, Diz White. Colorful and entertaining ! I recommend to anyone going to the Cotswolds, particularly Americans, who are not familiar with British country life.
