About this listen

Emma is content. She's got a promising career in front of her, great friends, and a pretty amazing family. But her love life has been a little lacking lately. That's when fate steps in, and she crashes into a tall, dark, and handsome man - Teren Adams. He’s single, successful, an extraordinary gentleman, but he’s also secretive. And some of his secrets are more unusual than most people’s. For instance, he’s a "little bit" vampire. He has fangs, incredible hearing, unbelievable speed, and, on occasion, he enjoys drinking a steaming cup of blood. But he’s also very much alive. He has a heartbeat, loves steak as well as cappuccinos, and has no problems walking around during the day. Since Teren acts human the majority of the time, the pros far outweigh the cons in Emma’s book. But when it becomes apparent that Teren’s condition is much more serious than he first lets on, and that being in a relationship with him requires more sacrifices than most would be willing to make, will Emma stay? Is love enough to compensate for a life that will never be anywhere near normal? But then again...what's normal anyway?

Too long!

I love S.C. Stephens' books, however this one dragged for me until the last 1/4 of the book (which was great!). I think the story could have been told with the same impact in half the time.

I hated this book!

Emma is a yuppie princess who loves to tell us all about her kakis and button downs, her too large and trash filled shoulder bag, her awful boss at work, how she only wears basic makeup like mascara and lip gloss, and the fact that she likes her coffee a certain way -- ad nauseum. She is so self involved that there isn't a detail of her life that she leaves out of her story. And despite the fact that she isn't at all concerned with pausing the action for inane digressions that made me yell at the wall during the very few actions scenes, or the fact that she was constantly in a childish temper -- despite all of that -- I had to finish this stupid book!

One day while making her daily coffee run for a pick me up, Emma meets a 1/4 vampire, 3/4 human guy, and they fall for each other. Thing is, he's got very little time left before he meets true death, so he wants to make a baby with her ASAP. What's a girl to do? He is the love of her life (after only knowing him a couple of months), so they get busy right a way.

Teren is every bit the yuppie that Emma is. He's stubborn and willful and determined to live what's left of his human life where and how he wants, even if that means putting Emma and any other human in danger of death when the change comes upon him. Their both immature a$$holes, and I wanted to knock their heads together.

Without the vampire element, this book would have been the literary equivalent of watching paint dry.

Their families are pretty dull also, even though his are various degrees of vampire, and her's includes a sister whose been horribly scarred by surviving a fire at a young age. The whole thing reads like a pretty dull YA love story, even though it's advertised as being for adults. Any sex that happens gets short shrift in Emma's narrative and happens "off camera."

So why did I read it?

And why did I buy book two?

Ok, so even though I found Emma to be beyond annoying, (and the 1st person structure didn't help), nor did the spot on narration of Piper Goodeve, this stupid book held my interest til the end.

I know, I don't get it either.

good story line. but..

I liked it. I wanted to definitely finish it... I felt like it took way to long to get to the peak of the story line and it was filled with way to many mundane day to day details...

I did not like the narrator. at all. period.

Slow, fizzles out, little intrigue

Any additional comments?

I love the way the book started out but I admit; I could not finish it. The book could have been condensed by at least a third without loosing anything from the story and I felt the character spent to much time fretting and creating problems that weren't there. Some good concepts but to much padding!

Poor Narrator

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The overall story was not bad as far as vampire lore goes, but it was defiantly not the worst. The narrator was the worst part by far. For some reason I just could not get past her breathy whiney voice, it didn't help that this what not the strong female character that I amused to.

Would you recommend Conversion to your friends? Why or why not?

If you are in between your favorite series releases, as I was, it was a decent way to kill the time and get my vampire fix.

A fantastically original vampire novel!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Ye, I would totally recommend this audiobook to a friend. Narrator, Piper Goodeve really animates the dense narrative of Emma and Teren's love story. I'm not sure if I would have loved it quite as much if I had read the e-book format especially since SC Stephens is a new-to-me author.

What other book might you compare Conversion to and why?

The Twilight series, the Black Dagger Brotherhood series and The Drake Chronicles because they are all feature unique vampire mythology.

Which scene was your favorite?

Emma's planned birthday surprise for Teren scene was my favorite because it was so funny and cute. I liked when Teren asked her what that distracting noise was and confirmed that he knew all of her body's digestive noises. Her ire over that was hilarious!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Dating a vampire isn't normal, but what's normal anyway?

Any additional comments?

I buddy read this one with my book buddy, Faye. I'm looking forward to starting BLOODLINES on audiobook as soon as she's ready to start it.

Just the right amount of mystery and suspence

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If you like suspense and fantasy with the happily ever after, you'll love this book.

What other book might you compare Conversion to and why?

It's very like the Twilight sagas

What does Piper Goodeve bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narrator's excellence in slipping for male to the many types female voices engages the reader and enhances the experience and feeling of almost watching a movie.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

There was a lot of anger with the prejudices but not tears.
