Story
Acuff knows the reason why many writers' novels go unfinished - it's the same reason why gyms are filled in the first week of January and empty by the end of the month and why people stop learning a new language once they get past the easy parts. It's not just that people lose momentum or get distracted. People give up on projects when they fail to live up to their own high expectations and decide that if they can't do something perfectly, they won't do it at all. If you're going to finish, you have to kill perfectionism.

Librarians spend their lives weeding - not weeds, but books - books that have reached the end of their shelf life both literally and figuratively. They remove books that patrons no longer check out, and they put back books they treasure. Annie Spence, who has a decade of experience as a Midwestern librarian, does this not only at her Michigan library but also at home, for her neighbors, at cocktail parties - everywhere. In Dear Fahrenheit 451, she addresses those books directly.

Story
When his satirical musings in a college newspaper got him discharged from the Air Force, it became clear to Walt Williams that his destiny in life was to be a writer - he just never thought he'd end up writing video games, let alone working on some of the most successful franchises in the industry - Bioshock, Civilization, Borderlands, and Mafia, among others. Williams pulls back the curtain on an astonishingly profitable industry that has put its stamp on pop culture and yet is little known to those outside its walls.

In How to Get Sh*t Done she shows how even the most perfectionistic among us can tap in to our inner free spirit and learn to feel like badasses rather than drudges.

What do the lives of Lincoln, Helen Keller, Joan of Arc, and other historical figures have in common with Paula Poundstone? In the hands of this wryly observant and self-deprecating comedian, the answer is outrageously funny and unexpectedly touching. Poundstone compares her crazy life to theirs, as she holds forth on her children, her career, and the time in her life when it appeared she would lose them both.

Helpful for inexperienced writers
What did you like best about Confessions of a 3-Day Novelist: How to Write an Entire Book in Just 72 Hours? What did you like least?
What I liked best was the narrator. Kristi Burns had a good voice and no annoying verbal twitches. She read the material in a lively manner that made you feel like you were listening to a friend chat. I would love to hear her read more books.
Would you be willing to try another book from Laura Roberts? Why or why not?
Laura Roberts came across as likeable & someone who would be fun in a writing group. She presented her material well, but there wasn't much to the book. It was more like an extended magazine article than a book. There was also rather a lot of talk about food in the book that felt more like filler to pad the book length. The author provided writing tips that might be helpful to a novice writer. However, if you read a lot of writing books, you won't find anything new in this book.
Any additional comments?
If you are looking for a writing help book that goes into more detail and presents more material, I would recommend writing guides by Cathy Yardley, Holly Lisle, Anne Lamott, James Scott Bell, and Chuck Wendig.

Thank You
A great inspiration for writing my first book. It's not a fiction novel that I'm writing, but on a subject that I'm only too familiar with and how I started my road to recovery after many years of a particular type of abuse. It's very clear that I can use many, if not all, of the strategies that you mention in your book. Thanks again.

Full of filler material
The author spends almost a third of the book suggesting things for you to eat. Yes, that's right. If you want suggestions for what to eat, you'll love this book. Nevermind that we bought the book because we wanted to read about writing. Author takes time to tell you the food suggestions are not filler material because she knows that's exactly what it is. The audio book is only 45 minutes long and about 12 minutes of it is naming brands of food you should eat on your 3-day novel-writing marathon. Yes she names name brands. Hm, I wonder if those companies are paying her for advertising for them.
The author also suggests you get someone to check on you during the three days to make sure you're eating and doing okay. Seriously? She suggests you pay for this person's gas. Really?
There is very little value if any in this audio book. It doesn't cost much but it's still a waste of money.
