About this listen

Narrowly escaping death at the hands of the Magistrate, Mira travels west, toward the coast. With three weakened human fugitives accompanying her, she searches for the mythical land of Sanctuary.

After encountering a pack of wolf shifters, headed by the charismatic - and brazen - Stryker, Mira learns that Sanctuary is real after all. Caldera Grove: home of the Otherkin. Hidden in the mouth of a dormant volcano, it has protected its residents from humans since the early days following the great cataclysm. For Mira - a vampire - Caldera Grove is a land of peace; an escape from the relentless persecution of the humans who once enslaved her, and an end to the daily struggle and bloodshed of being a gladiator.

For the humans accompanying her, Caldera Grove means death. Humans, greedy and untrustworthy creatures, are destroyed before they can penetrate its borders.

To plead her case for entry into Caldera, Mira must abandon her companions, albeit temporarily, and follow Stryker into the heart of the city. What she finds within Caldera Grove presents her with an unenviable decision between her own desires for freedom and peace, or honor and the human companions who risked it all for her.

Excellent follow up

This was an excellent follow-up to book number one!

We join Mira and her friends in the wilderness as they find the way to Sanctuary. We find that she and Lucian are still on rough terms and then enter in Striker! Talk about a monkey wrench...

Striker is a wolf and he is other kin and Mira is taken aback! There are struggles to find a new balance between her human friends and her supernatural family. When she finds that she has no place in either land, she's got to make a tough decision when the humans come looking she really has a hard time deciding what the right thing is to do especially when people are manipulating her mind.

Once Mira figures out what she really wants to do in her spirit, she sets out to do it and come hell or high water she will make sure that it happens!

Salidas has written an excellent follow-up to book one I very excited to see what happens with Mira and her friends and all of her new family. Especially to see how Mira reacts to all of the new feelings that she has now that she's no longer trapped but fighting for her freedom to stay intact.

Due to physical violence suggested for mature readers.

I can't get enough of these Series!! An absolute must read!

The Chronicles of the Uprising series continues with Complication and once again I was thrust into a world I didn't want to leave!! This is an amazing story, full of fantasy, loyalty, romance, honor and determination that always leaves you wanting more. And omg can you say Werewolves? I was so happy when they appeared. They are definitely two things I never thought I would say. Funny and Sexy! I loved everything about this book, the complexity of the story and the depth of the characters keeps you hanging on Katie's every word, and the way she is unfolding this world in front of our eyes is not only mesmerizing but absolutely and without a doubt.. Addicting.

The more you discover, the more you'll want to know and I for one can't wait to see what else is up for this fabulous and refreshing story. I can't get enough of these Series!! An absolute must read!

I will be switching from audio to book format

I was so use to the previous narrator that it made getting into this book so difficult. the narrator completely ruined it for me. she sounded nothing like I pictured her voice.

with that being said. the book is yet again another hit! k.a. salidas doesn't disappoint. I loved this book... a little romantic feelings are developing.. I vote for a wolf/vampire relationship sorry Lucian.

I will absolutely be continuing with this series. just unfortunately not with audiobooks. I really can't shake her voice. it's like nails on a chalkboard for me. But this series is just way too good to stop.

Mira is back.

I loved book 1 and was so excited when this came to audio, while I enjoyed it I thought it was missing the intenseness that book 1 had.

Mira is on the run and trying to reach sanctuary with the humans that helped her, only thing is she has to escape the people that are chasing her, and deal with the fact that humans aren't allowed in sanctuary. How can she get her friends into Sanctuary and who are the wolves following her too?

Mira is as awesome as always. She has been through hell and only wants to live a safe life. Her feelings about humans has changed a lot since her captivity and she knows that if they aren't allowed in sanctuary, then she won't go either. I loved that about her. She may be kick ass but she has a heart too.

The plot was relatively fast paced. It wasn't as action packed as the first book but it still held my attention throughout. I liked the otherkin angle and loved the wolves, though I loathe a love triangle and am really hoping this isn't going down that road!!!

In all, this was a really good second book. I wanted a little more action but we get a bit more character development, which I suppose is a good trade off ;)

This is a different narrator than book 1 and while she did a great job, I found her to be a little flat on the action scenes. I needed a little more pizzazz from her to enjoy it thoroughly.

*I received a copy of this for review. This in no way affects my thoughts.*

Book 2

Any additional comments?

Complication sends us right back to where Dissension left us!
Mira and the 3 human companions have headed west towards the coast, in search of a place Mira isn't even sure exists. On their search for Sanctuary they run into a pack of wolf shifters. The alpha of this pack: Stryker certainly knows how to make an entrance: Looking forward to book 3

Mira is free, but what will happen next?

Who was your favorite character and why?

Stryker is a new character we come to know well. I wasn't sure I'd like him at first meeting. But, by the end of the book I loved him! He's strong, Alpha, but he's also smart and sees things are changing with the events around them.

What about Kerri McCann’s performance did you like?

I was nervous coming into this audio book as Kerri is not the narrator from the first book. I shouldn't have worried at all. Kerri is soft and clear spoken with the draw to her pacing that we can easily understand and fits Mira's personality. I was impressed early on. Kerri also slips into the persona of the characters as she reads with personalities coming through in voice and attitude. She does different tones and annunciations for words and attitudes of different characters, such as Lucian as he has a distinct feel that shows he's positive in what he says and use to having power.

Any additional comments?

We get our fighting, even though Mira is trying to get away from that. We also get some bonding time as friends. This is the best part. There is also a possibility of a budding romance? Maybe? I'm curious to see how this works out as there is a potential of two men for Mira. It's just starting to be seen, so I'm curious to see how it's handled in the future stories.

This book is complete. I'm not left disappointed with the ending. It's an ending that leads you right into the next book (which is out) but not hanging off the cliff at the abrupt ending. Well done! I love these endings, it's like a soft hook - you want to continue but you are left hanging on by your finger tips.

I love the vision K.A. has created in Mira. She's a strong character that has grown from the moment we saw her, and tries to be more than the prejudiced that is every strongly present in the world. I still believe, more than ever, that K.A. will be know for what she has created in this series. I'm only at book two, but love what I'm getting and will continue the series.

Very interesting

What did you love best about Complication?

I loved the introduction to otherkin and the description of sanctuary. I loved that even though Mira (a vampire) was mistreated by humans she called humans her friends and was willing to stick with them until they located sanctuary.
In listening to the audio, I love the voices Kerri McCann used to bring the characters to life.

Which character – as performed by Kerri McCann – was your favorite?

Stryker

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Stryker was shot by the soldiers and Mira tried to save him.

Good.

I liked the previous narrator more, but this one wasn't terrible. The previous one brought more life to the story, and I think I'd probably have liked Complication more if she had been the one who read it.

All that aside, it's still a good story. I like the first book better though, there was more action. But, we see that Mira and the gang make it to Sanctuary, but is it what Mira hoped for?

Sanctuary is Not a Safe Haven for All

Complication is the second book in the Chronicles of the Uprising. Mira and Lucien with their two human companions have escaped Iron City and from the Magistrate. The only place that Mira could think of going is Sanctuary. She doesn't know if this haven is real or just a myth.

When Mira encountered Stryker, a shifter, she found that Sanctuary does exist except that her human companions couldn't entered. Sanctuary is only for the supernatural beings and not for humans. For any humans to know its location and to entered Sanctuary meant death.

Mira has to make a choice to either go into Sanctuary or to remain with her human companions who have nowhere else to go.

With the new character, Stryker is quite a leader on fairness. He does things in a small way of allowing Mira to know the politics of Sanctuary. When new information comes up, he sees enough to present his case of the circumstances.

The title, Complication fits the story very well. Even though Mira, Lucien, and their two friends have escaped, they don't have really have anywhere to go. The Magistrate has sent the Elite soldiers to hunt them down. For Mira to go into Sanctuary, would mean her friends would ended up capture or maybe put to death. The only solution is to turned them but Mira wouldn't force that decision to her friends.

The ending is another cliff-hanger. Now the story is transitioning to going back against Mira's human masters. After all Mira has made some promises to her friend George.

The narrator, Kerri McCann delivers a very good performance in narration the story. Mira still has her sassiness. Lucien is still regal but yet humble at his circumstances.

I was given this audiobook by the author/narrator/publisher via Audiobook Blast in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated or influenced in any way in writing this review.
