About this listen

When Lise Redding's estranged sister, country-pop star Callie Redfern, is killed during a publicity stunt, the small-town music teacher is dragged from her quiet life into the spotlight.

Lise hadn't spoken with Callie in ten years, ever since Callie's betrayal split them apart, so she's shocked to discover that she's inherited her sister's massive estate. Not only that, but Lise is now the guardian of her sixteen-year-old niece, Ariel, to whom she's practically a stranger.

Overwhelmed by grief and her new responsibilities, Lise thinks things couldn't get worse. But overnight she becomes the paparazzi's latest obsession. Suddenly she and her longtime friend Dale are plastered over the front pages of the tabloids. Desperate to escape both the media and her memories, Lise sets off with Ariel on a search for the girl's father. Yet instead of granting Lise a reprieve, the quest brings her face-to-face with long-buried secrets. Only by learning to forgive will she be able to find her way back home.

My New Favorite Author

I bought one of her books ( I think it was called Everything You Are) as a special on Audible and I liked it so much that I bought two other books by her right away. Just finished this one and was very impressed with the story. It kept me interested the whole time and the way she handled the subject of forgiveness, and how it brings healing and eradicates guilt was amazing! I loved every minute of it!

Voice was hard to listen to

The main characters voice was ok but the voices for the others were terrible. The young guy sounded like he was under water….
Characters lacked depth. The main character wasn’t really like able and neither was her love interest

Decent characters, but unrealistic.

While this story focused on the surviving family of a famous singer, I don't find the course of events completely realistic. Nonetheless, it was entertaining and I found the characters well developed and thought through. Did not appreciate the language scattered throughout the book; however, was not frequent.
The reader was good overall and easy to listen to. There where a time or two I wasn't sure which character was talking, as some of her voices were not very different.

Great story

I don't write a lot of reviews but they make it so easy now and I really liked this book. Not sure why but I enjoyed the characters their plights and the tempo of the book. Hope you enjoy!

Not quite there

I've never been so conflicted over the rating I've given a book. However, this time I just couldn't make myself like this book completely. Many times I wanted to just skip whole chapters because I couldn't get behind the fact that this adult was allowing a 16 year old to dictate her actions. Then when ever the aunt did try to be the adult she allowed them kids to make and/or guilt her into changing her mind. Even when she knew it was going to cause trouble. Then when the bad happened and the aunt expressed her opinions or emotions on the situation, she was always the one to apologize and never the niece. Or Lise was made out to be in the wrong or the bad guy and that had nothing to do with the media. Then the ending was not at all realistic. I get that this is a work of fiction, but you want the reader to believe that such a huge conflict and betrayal can be resolved in not even a full chapter? Not feeling it.

Ending

Liked the book but I thought the ending was rushed. Half an hour left and I was thinking there was a lot to be covered in the remaining amount of time.

Great story

I have loved every one of Kerry Anne King's books. This one was just as beautiful as the rest. Each one seems to be a message about love, family, hope, and compassion. I was a little annoyed at the immaturity of the "adults" in the story, but everything worked well together to move the plot along. Good, heartfelt story. I highly recommend.
