About this listen

When you control minds, only your heart can be used against you.

Eight months ago, Kira Moore revealed to the mindreading world that mindjackers like herself were hidden in their midst. Now she wonders if telling the truth was the right choice after all. As wild rumors spread, a powerful anti-jacker politician capitalizes on mindreaders' fears and strips jackers of their rights.

While some jackers flee to Jackertown - a slum rife with jackworkers who trade mind control favors for cash - Kira and her family hide from the readers who fear her and jackers who hate her. But when a jacker Clan member makes Kira's boyfriend Raf collapse in her arms, Kira is forced to save the people she loves by facing the thing she fears most: FBI agent Kestrel and his experimental torture chamber for jackers.

Second book doesn’t disappoint!!! You didn’t think it would be finished after the first once she told the world about her “kind”. They’ve moved into a new community but life isn’t easy! With new and old enemies, I found it fast paced and finished in just a couple days. Loved the new characters and development. Cannot wait to listen to the next one. Great and clear narration that adds to the story.

Second is a success

I love this series so far and have become entangled in the tough life that is the mind jacker. Just trying to be normal is almost impossible now and trying to not be locked up or worse is hard. This is a pattern often ignored. when you oppress a person or group that's when they are more likely to rebel. I am on the mind jacker side though I see the need for some system to protect the average mind reader.

Book 2 is great

I truly enjoyed this book. The narrator did a most excellent job thanks to the author's vivid imagination and expertly woven story. Ms. Quinn enables the reader to navigate through the pages of these books easily without even realizing how unfamiliar this world is to earthlings.

Very well written story, plot, and excellent narration

Liked the first book in the series and thought I'd listen to the second book. Good plot overall but it did take some time for me to warm up to the narrator - kind of drab at first but not bad.

Good sequel

Would you try another book from Susan Kaye Quinn and/or Kelli Shane?

I would, even though this one was difficult to get through. Kelli Shane's performance was pretty wooden through-out, but I think she has the potential to do better with a little more practice.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I absolutely love the premise of these books. I think it's unique, and I wouldn't mind exploring another 'mind-jacker' character in this universe.
Some scenes seemed a bit awkward in an unintentional way.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

As stated above, I believe Kelli just needs a bit more practice to improve on her delivery.

Did Closed Hearts: (Book Two in the Mindjack Trilogy) inspire you to do anything?

I tried to mind jack my cat to train him to poop in the toilet, but it just gave me a headache.

Seriously, though, no. :) It wasn't that type of book.

Any additional comments?

I read book one, and after I couldn't get into the second book, I saw it was on audible with a whispersync discount, and I thought what the heck. The audible version did help me get through the book, but there were times I struggled to keep my attention focused on the narration. Some scenes felt driven by the plot instead of what the characters themselves should be doing, but overall the story remained faithful to the first. I will finish the series.

I really wanted to love this book
