About this listen

Dani Carrigan has always relied on logic when making important life decisions, but when she discovers she's pregnant - and that there's a chance her baby may be born "not perfect" - logic lets her down.

It would help if the baby's father would pop the question, but widowed father Adrian seems more interested in protecting his six-year-old daughter than committing to his new relationship with Dani. The last time she felt this alone and scared was when she was 16 and her mother died, leaving Dani to raise her younger sisters with precious little help from her distant and disapproving rancher father. She felt so inadequate then, but is she any more prepared to be a mother now?

Support comes from an unlikely source. Dani always saw her next-door neighbour and friend, divorce attorney Elliot Gilmore, as a charming, handsome, playboy-type. But with each challenge she faces, from pregnancy, to delivery and beyond - Elliot reveals himself a better man than she ever guessed.

Is it possible that Elliot hasn't been playing the field - but waiting for her?

Unexpected Love

This is a sweet story with a strong, independent, and fiercely protective heroine along with a kind and caring hero. It has a great message and the narrator does a great job.

Ethics and a happy ending!

I have been so curious to hear Dani’s story. She seemed such a machine in the other books. Her story is endearing and shows her to be so much more than a pragmatic social scientist. She proves to be a vey paradoxical character. Great ethical conundrums. I so approve of how Dani chose the life of her child. My only true complaint is the mispronunciation of “trisomy.” When in doubt, check it out.

Different but good.

This was an interesting plot. As in most of Charmichael's books there is a strongest women who invariably is exploited by a rotten or highly flawed man. This reveals her weakness, the Bad guy she is unable to stand up to or makes excuses for. Her life takes a turn until she is 'rescued' by her one true love. (Usually someone she had overlooked or dismissed previously).

In this book Dani (Danielle) is impregnated and treated poorly by Adrian, her boss. Her next door neighbor and best friend, Elliot, is the ultimate Saint. And so goes the story but with a whole lot of interesting background of the character, mostly Elliot. Dani is book smart but not much else. She is not unlikable but aside from her child she is remarkable. Adrian is 100% cad. The type of man you would spit on at a cocktail party. But Elliot is not only lovable he is the most riveting part of the entire novel.

Elliot carries the story and that is why the book is so good. Dani is, insecure not independent as she seems to think herself and her character development really never comes to fruition. Because of that the book is disappointing. Elliot story 6 stars, + Dani story 2 = 4 stars overall.

The narration was lacking this time around. it was hard to distinguish Dani' voice from Adrian or Elliot. At times it confusing who was speaking.

Good enough book.to pass the time. listen while cleaning house or gardening.

Narrator's voice

Overall a great book, just the voice of Dani was more like a male's voice.

Another Carrigan Sister Falls in Love

I have enjoyed several stories of the Carrigans of the circle C. All of the other books I’ve read in this series take place on or near the circle C Ranch. None of the girls get along with their father, but Dani moved away from Montana all the way to Seattle to get away from him. I like this story just as much as the ones on the ranch. Elliott is a great hero.

Absolutely loved this! Need more.

I didn't realize this was a short book. I wasn't ready for it to end!!! I hope she follows Beverly in the next book. I loved this. I'll be honest, it made me cry more than once. So accurate with the feelings of a new mom, with or without a special needs baby.

Wonderful story

This was a beautiful story one that a lot of people should read. It is close to the hearts of many. Elliott was a sweet guy and very patient and now a proud father. Many lessons learned and sweetness for such a precious little girl.
