About this listen

Inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's "The Red Shoes", New York Times best-selling author K. W. Jeter's "La Valse" forges a fable about love, the decadence of technology, and a gala dance that becomes the obsession of a young engineer - and the doom of those who partake in it. In "You Will Attend Until Beauty Awakens", national best-selling author and John W. Campbell Award winner Jay Lake tells the story of Sleeping Beauty - and how the princess was conceived in deception, raised in danger, and rescued by a prince who may be less than valiant. The tale of "The Tinderbox" takes a turn into the surreal when a damaged young soldier comes into possession of an intricate, treacherous treasure and is drawn into a mission of mercy in national best-selling author Kat Richardson's "The Hollow Hounds". In "The Kings of Mount Golden", Hugo and World Fantasy Award nominee Paul Di Filippo tells the story of a young man's search for his heritage and a mechanical marvel that lies at the heart of a sinister pact in this fascinating take on "The King of the Golden Mountain".

YAS!

If you could sum up Clockwork Fairy Tales in three words, what would they be?

Steampunk meets Grimm

Which scene was your favorite?

retellings .. all of them

Any additional comments?

Magical

This is a selection of some of the greatest fairy tales of the world, with steampunk elements added in for good measure. It never feels intrusive toward the spirit of the story, and in fact sometimes adds a much needed boost to its atmospheric buildup.

Enjoyed the creative science

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

It was a fun listen. If you like Victorian age technology with cogs and animatrons, you'll love this book.

An aquired taste I'm sure but I had fun

The tales and the take on them were a thrill. The acting wasn't too bad either but at times they hurt the mood of the stories. Still, an excellent collection of excellent tales.

Well written and read but I didn't like

I didn't enjoy the stories. They are steam punk but take twists that I didn't like and didn't infuse the steampunk in ways that were entertaining.
