About this listen

Inspired by the experiences of a decorated combat veteran and former member of the 82nd Airborne Division, Clear by Fire is a blistering new military thriller about an American hero who, in order to clear his name, must take down a highly classified band of soldiers that has gone murderously rogue.

Mason Kane was a loyal American soldier and a proud member of the elite, off-the-books Anvil Program - a group of black ops soldiers who wage war from the shadows. But all that changed when his commander, as a part of a twisted scheme to force America's continued involvement in the Middle East, ordered an innocent Afghan family murdered.

Refusing the order, Mason finds himself on the run, hunted by his former comrades and labeled a terrorist by the country he served faithfully. Relying only on his survival skills and the help of female Special Operations operative Renee Hart, Kane must embark on his gravest mission yet: unraveling the conspiracy that reaches all way to the president's inner circle and stopping the world's most dangerous soldiers from completing their treacherous plan.

Set in the shadows of the war on terror, this realistic, action-packed adventure puts a twist on the traditional military thriller and starts a brand-new series that fans of Brad Thor and Brad Taylor will love.

Joshua Hood's debut novel is fantastic

I actually know Mr. Hood through an online forum for thriller fans and aspiring writers so my review might seem a bit biased. With all that being said, let me say first that Mr Hood does a fantastic job avoiding many of the clichés found in many military thrillers.

Mason Kane isn't your typical patriotic action hero who always knows right from wrong, but rather a man who is walking a path of redemption. Literary snobs might complain that his character isn't that well developed yet but keep in mind that this is only the first book in what will hopefully be A very successful franchise for years to come. The narration was pretty good for the most part, though a little long winded sounding at times. Can't wait for the next book which is set to release in Summer of 2016.

Not too bad..!

Loved Mason, Rene and all the other protagonists...the ones that didn't die anyway. The story was fairly believeable. Only thing I couldn't understand is who was funding Mason and his crew? It wasn't clear to me.

A good, high action “operator” story.

I enjoyed this book. I enjoyed the action, the attention to detail when describing equipment and operations, and the complexity of the involvement between people and groups, (I don’t want to give anything away here) in the course of the story. This isn’t a book you can casually listen to while trying to compose a letter or work on anything that requires focus, because your focus needs to be On the story as people and scenes move quickly. Clearly enough loose ends left at the end of the book that another in this series will be coming. I will look forward to it.

Amazing utterly intense

This author has it all. The military manorism, the edge on your seat thriller, and the ability to not want to put the book down. I’ve read the actual one and now audible. I can’t get enough.

Engaging

I enjoyed the book/narration. I only had one moment where I was pulled out of the story and most people would be unaware. Morphine causes constricted, not dilated pupils. The story flowed well, would have liked more character development and more backstory on Mason,Zeus and achmed, but if you like Rambo, Seagal movies,Terminator, etc with a decent story and lots of action with an imperfect hero, this story is for you. I hope Mason and his band of Merry Men and Women are seen in future books and we get more of how they ended up together and how they became the soldiers they are.

...an exciting military action thriller!

This audiobook was "gas" [ meaning good]! Lots of action and kept me listening and pushed me to listen longer. I easily got into it and now I'm looking forward to listening to the second one. Even recommended it to my Coast Guard son. Two thumbs up to Joshua Hood for writing such a good action thriller book that keeps one's attention. High Five Josh! Clear By Fire kept my attention for hours... Again, thanks!

Diamond in the rough!

After reading/listening to over 345 books its rare to find a GEM! Joshua Hood is veteran of our Special Forces and it show's in his writing style. Well written perfectly researched and a bit of humor well placed throughout this book.
John Pruden does a great job.
