Reseñas editoriales

All the narrators in this production excel, but Michael Caine's rendering of Kipling's "If" and Benjamin Zephaniah's delivery of his own "Talking Turkeys" are standouts. A century or more ago, this was the home entertainment system: Young people would memorize popular poems and recite them after dinner. Some of the poetry here is light entertainment (W.S. Gilbert's and Lewis Carroll's, for example), and some, like "If," is moral exhortation. There are also tales of adventure ("Casabianca" and "The Tale of East and West" are fine examples) that carry moral lessons. Some of the morals may be dated, but the poems deserve to be experienced as they were intended - read aloud by expert narrators.

My wife and I play lyrical poetry like this every night on an iPhone till we slumber. Better than any pill. And NOT cause it's boring. Far from it--it's hypnotic. Wonderfully read. Nice masculine poems that girls will also love.

Play this to your children at night to they sleep

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend if the publisher or Audible wrote a short introduction to each selection such as a brief history, on the author and its significance. This is the only reason I rated this 2 stars - the performance was excellent but I felt it was rushed because it went from story to story.

What did you like best about this story?

Historical stories that I remembered reading as a child in school.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of the narrators?

The narrator was very good but it needed introductory materials between each section to fill out the holes.
