Short Intriguing Story

Mara is a young girl moving into young adulthood. She lives in a society where utopian beliefs are promoted and lived. At her designated age she is sent to work in the heart of the city where all laws and research are completed. It is here that she discovers there is more going on, much more. Now she must decide her next steps.

The author, J.C. Ambrose delivers a short yet intriguing story that provokes and challenges the listener to consider their own beliefs of Utopia, their morals, and the next steps to correct wrongs. He tells the story from Mara’s viewpoint and while it could delve much deeper into the inner workings of the city in the clouds, I suspect that is forthcoming in the next book. The ending is well done and leaves the listener satisfied but also wanting to know more.

The narrator, April Lichtman portrays Mara well. She speaks clearly and with a steady rhythm. She keeps the story moving forward and provides the emotional reactions needed to keep the story engaging. Through her voice, she shows growth of Mara very well.

Overall, this is an interesting book with a strong beginning and intriguing ending with a good dose of deception.

There were no issues with the quality or production of the audiobook.
