About this listen

Founded by five unmarried and enterprising Amish maidels, the new Morning Star Marketplace in small-town Missouri is preparing for a joyous Christmas season. But will the holiday also bring unexpected tidings of love?

Twin sisters Molly and Marietta Helfing are eagerly anticipating Christmas, with Marietta fully recovered from cancer and their noodle-making business thriving. But Molly clearly misses having former tenant Pete Shetler and his rambunctious dog, Riley, around. Marietta can't ignore Molly's feelings for Pete - or the anxiety it stirs within her. Convinced her illness has made her unmarriageable, Marietta wonders what kind of life she'll have if her sister marries - despite Molly's promise to never leave her behind....

Then a fire destroys the home of Amish neighbors and Molly and Marietta graciously make room for widower Glenn Detweiler, his dat, and his two young boys. When Pete returns to help the family rebuild, Molly relishes her reunion with the handsome carpenter, while Marietta delights in mothering Glenn's boys - and is surprised by her poignant bond with their quiet, brooding father. Soon everyone is wondering if this season will bring the blessing of a merry double wedding to Morning Star....

Not Charlotte Hubbard best but still OK

The story was basically the same with the 6 main characters. I found it hard to believe the Amish talk the way they sometimes did in reality and the absolute worse thing was the narrator doing her child voice, dear god.. so cringeworthy!! Her voice was already nasally but the child characters were pure torture to my ears. Not the best narrator , not the worst , just like the story.

Love and Hope at Christmas Time

Christmas Comes to Morning Star is a wonderful story full of real-life situations: pain, doubt and loneliness, but also community, family, faith and celebrating the true meaning of Christmas. I NEED this kind of story this time of year, when the whole world seems to be focused on commercialism, instead of Jesus. And I appreciate that “plain folk” are not depicted as being “simple”, but instead are as multi-faceted and humorous as the rest of us. I love hearing about all the crafts and homemade goods that the maedels make at the marketplace, and now I’m going to have to look up the noodle pudding, which has piqued my interest. As Marietta worked with Glen’s older son, helping him to learn his lines for the Christmas play at church, they bonded with one another. She also learned how to calm the younger son, a colicky infant requiring goat’s milk since the death of his mother. At age 35, a survivor of breast cancer, she thought she would never marry. Unable to have children since the chemo treatments, Marietta feared being alone if her twin, Molly ever married. And Molly with her quick wit, she was secretly in love with Pete, the bishop’s nephew . . . who was not Amish. Pete, with his pickup truck and his dog, Riley, needs to grow up. And then there’s Jo Fussner and the sweet story of visiting the Poinsettia Farm with Michael and his dad . . . and Jo’s horribly angry mother, who must be going through menopause. (Would love to hear the outcome of Jo’s story) Don’t miss this book, which filled me with peach and joy, as the tale unfolded. It will warm your heart.

Hard Year

I loved listening to this book this year. My family and I, like so many others, have had such a hard year. This book was comforting and uplifting without being stupid and sappy. I enjoyed it very much and recommend it. Also, I listened to this book alone without have heard the first two. It was a stand alone book. Not needed to read the first two.
