Acerca de esta escucha

Seth Andrews wasn't an idiot during his 30 years as an evangelical Christian. He wasn't unintelligent, nor did his IQ shift when he ultimately left religion entirely. He considered himself thoughtful, moral, reasonable, and at least as smart as the average person. In other words, he wasn't an idiot. Yet strangely, he often sounded like one.

In any other context, Christians would likely smirk, scoff, or recoil at many of their "normal" beliefs and practices, reenacted Easter crucifixions, eating monthly communion "flesh", singing hymns about being washed in blood, and the embrace of a Bible containing scripture verses about golden hemorrhoids, apocalypse dragons, and human sacrifice, So what gives?

Are these notions embraced only because they're familiar? Do they make any sense? And, do they cause otherwise reasonable people to sound like idiots?

Seth Andrews admits that, for himself, the answer was a definite "yes". For everyone else? Listen to the audiobook and decide.

Great story and narration. I highly recommend all of Seth's books especially "Deconverted" & "Scary Stories"

I absolutely love listening to Seth Andrews speaking. he has such a silky smooth voice and his way with words matches it. His views on religion and politics are very much in line with mine, and this book was a joy to listen to. Thank you, Seth, for speaking out about this thing that I always felt in my heart when listening to religious speeches!

great book, great narration

Aside from Seth Andrews voicing the the Audible version ;which is a major plus btw; I found it to be very educational. and this book greatly expands upon what was said in the YouTube video of the same title. I greatly enjoyed listening to what you, Seth had to say! thank you for your activism and this book! much love from a life long atheist, that grew up in a religious household. you give me hope for a better tomorrow!

mind opening

As for the conversation about nipples, it's a problem because of they way men in American culture sexualise women, specifically the breast and nipples. American culture notoriously over sexualises the female body, I mean when young girls are taught to cover up rather than young boys being taught to respect everyone, idk what you expect. Of men weren't such violent perverts we could show breast and nipples without an issue.

Love it!

Seth brought up some interesting points I had never considered. I’m already an atheist but I enjoy hearing other peoples perspectives.

Dense with great stuff. Sometimes using a credit on the books that are under 10 hrs can seem like some value is left on the table. But this book has no filler , from the start to the end kept the interest 100 percent. Great humor , good reader. Everything spot on

Excellent

Listening to Seth's recollections of "Christian-speak" in childhood and adulthood brought back memories and made me question even more why I spent almost 40 years of my life as an "Christian", 12 of those as a children's pastor. His writing is both sincere and humorous, chipping away at the belief without chipping away at the believer. It makes me want to send a copy of this book to every child I ever "taught" so they can see the fallacy of an "inerrant" Bible, along with an apology for teaching them so many falsehoods as 'truth'. Many of Seth's statements on the writing of the Old and New Testament are also reflected in the writings of Biblical scholar Dr. Bart Ehrman, whose books gave me the confidence to walk away from the cult of Christianity and embrace a agnosticism - which has given me more peace than any religious teaching.

Resonates with any ex-evangelical!

I loved the original speech this book expanded on, and the book did not disappoint. It is nice hear a common sense look at all the parts of Christianity society seems afraid to question.
All while being respectful to believers, just not ignoring the many problematic aspects of beliefs themselves. Bonus that Seth is an excellent narrator.

good listen
