About this listen

Stella Fain has a rule for men she likes: Make them wait... But the gorgeous Jay proves an exception to the rule when he bowls Stella off her Prada wedges at a press junket on the Cote d'Azur. He might seem to have everything going for him, but Stella is about to realise that while jet-set lifestyles can be fabulous, her career as a journalist isn't something she wants to jeopardise for any man, no matter how filthy-rich or gorgeous. And then there's her father - a six-times-married prime slice of Alpha Male with a grudge against inherited wealth... and Jay. There's no denying money makes the world go round and diamonds are a girl's best friend, but they don't make the path to love any easier to tread - with or without the Prada wedges.©2006 Maggie Alderson. Critic reviews

"At last we've found her, the female Seinfeld. Warm, witty, wise and well-dressed, Alderson is the haute couture of humour." (Kathy Lette)
"Stella writes about luxury for a London newspaper and enjoys the perks of the job. When she meets Jay at a designer opening on the Cote d'Azur, her life is turned upside down. Stella is the level-headed first-born daughter of a famous architect who is on his sixth wife and umpteenth child, so she's cautious around men. Nicky Talacko juggles accents, from British to Australian, from Boston to Greek, as Stella and her half-siblings enjoy the crazy life of their patched-together family. Talacko also adds spirit and intrigue to the dangerous world of celebrity reporting. This production is sure to entice lovers of chick lit to listen to every lovely syllable." (AudioFile Magazine)

Fun and easy read - Narrator is great

This is a fun and easy listen and the narrator does a great job with all the characters.

not my favorite

I did not hate it, but I would not recommend it to anyone, just long and a bit dull.

Loved it!

Love the narrator's accent, she did all the voices really well. The story was entertaining and made me laugh! I will look for other books by this author esp. if narrated by Nicky Talacko!!!

This was a really cute book. It kept my interest throughout. I think the ending was a little weird but it fit the book. If you like chick lit you will def like this one!!

Terrific characters, excellent narration

This is a LOVELY book. Maggie Alderson's writing brings great characters, an interesting story line, and enough changes to keep us guessing, but still hpoping for the happy ending. Nicky Talacko's narration immediately brings a wonderful intimacy to the storytelling that draws one in fast. Her style here is different from even her other narrations and her adept handling of the emotions adds an additional, brilliant facet to the book. Very enjoyable. I wish I could find this mix of author/narrator again.

Did Anything Every HAPPEN?

I'm almost finished with this listen, and still wondering when something will actually happen. I'll finish so I can answer my own question. It's a good "read." The narrator is really good. The characters are somewhat trite. It's a good no-brainer, but would be really good if there was actually some concrete conflict that could be resolved. The heroine and her father are good characters and could be expanded upon.

It is cute

I wish this had happened to me! Likeable main characters and I loved the parts of the story dealing with the happenings at The Journal. Lovely narrator except for Jay's voice - too girly and soppy...not ideal for the male romantic lead.
