About this listen

“I can’t be the one to rescue you. You have to save yourself.”

I never expected Alicia Martin to walk back into my life. Not after the way she left. Not after her letter. Yet here she is, more alluring than ever, and with a secret that flips my world on its axis.

Three years ago I would have done anything to be with her, but now things are different. Complicated. I have a life here in Richmond, one I’m proud of and worked hard to build.

That doesn’t mean I’ve given up hope.

If anything, she’s restored my belief in second chances. The last time we were together, I gave her plenty of reasons to run. This time, I’ll convince her to stay.

Caught in Us is the conclusion to Chase and Alicia’s story and should be listened to after Caught in the Chase. The books in the Caught series are interconnected stories and can be enjoyed in any order, however the recommended listening order is:

  • Caught in the Flames - Callie and Ash's story
  • One Hot Night - Jill and Cam's prequel
  • Caught in the Lies - Jill and Cam's story
  • Caught in the Chase - Book 1 in Alicia and Chase's story
  • Caught in Us - Book 2 in Alicia and Chase's story

The conclusion to a monumental, emotional journey

This book is the conclusion of Chase and Alicia’s story, which started in Caught in the Chase. So you really must listen to that book before you start this one. It is also the fourth entry in the Caught series. These books do feature interconnected stories and while you can enjoy each of the couple's romances as a standalone, I think you will have a much deeper and even more pleasurable experience if you listen to them all and in order.

These two have really taken us on a monumental journey as their relationship evolved and their story unfolded. Honestly, I feel like my emotions have been all over the place with these two. This makes perfect sense because these characters have a raw, real life genuineness to them. They have flaws and issues and have been known to make bad decision and huge heartbreaking mistakes. So I've been anxiously awaiting this book to see how everything wraps up and I was not disappointed!

A wealth of intense and deep emotions flows throughout this intense romance and that ensures your heart get a very serious workout. A skillfully crafted blend of drama, angst, twists and poignancy creates a potent and powerful storyline that delivers massive feels, a few tears and ultimately some major heart melting swoon.

This book features dual narration, which I admit is my preferred format. It just helps me connect with the characters and to become fully immersed in the book. I loved the performances that each of these narrators gave and what's more, I felt their voices fit the characters extremely well.

Captivating and Emotional Romance!

I loved this poignant but beautiful conclusion of Chase and Alicia’s story! Alicia return's home after 3 years away from her friends and family with a surprise no one saw coming. Chase has worked hard to make a new life for himself and to be a man he can be proud of. He even thought he was in love until Alicia walks back into his life. Now he can't stop thinking of her. Alicia isn't sure about her place with her family and friends, feeling like an outsider, that she brought on herself. But now that she is back, making amends with those she loves, she might be ready to think about the future. But when tragedy strikes, and temptation threatens all her hard work, will she be strong enough to stay? I loved this rollercoaster journey of redemption, forgiveness, hope and love. I thought Shea did a great job addressing difficult issues with honesty and empathy. It made the way that Chase and Alicia work thru the complications of their lives feel authentic and made me cheer for their HEA even harder.
Teddy Hamilton, and Savannah Peachwood added so much depth to these characters as they continue to narrate this emotional and breathtaking romance, and bringing it to life so clearly. Chase and Alicia's story is filled with pain and sorrow but it also has a beautiful new beginning, filled with hope, healing, forgiveness, and love that will stay with you long after the last page.

How easy it can be to forget it’s not something you’re watching

I love how Teddy and Savannah make it easy to forget they’re reading a story as opposed to living Alicia and Chase’s lives! The conclusion to their love story had me gripped from the beginning, squealing in my car, and in tears at moments at Alicia’s plight in her difficulty reconnecting with her two best friends after three (THREE!!) years in England. Chase is shocked to see her show up with more than he expected at Jill’s wedding and their own reconnection begins.
Teddy once again captured Chase’s humor filled attitude, so much you can feel the annoyance Chase is feeling too. Savannah has Alicia’s calm and strong nature down to a T and their voices mingling only lend to the amazing story Kacey has penned for the end of this firefighter trilogy

...a soulful tragedy that never loses heart.

Chase and Alicia got off to an emotional start, so it's only fitting that they keep that dynamic going. Shea holds nothing back when it comes to exposing the heart. Caught in Us is the heartaching end to a haunting love story. Caught in the shadows of life, can two bruised hearts find the courage to step into the light of love? Forget the fairytale, Alicia and Chase are a soulful tragedy that never loses heart.

Stay!

Teddy and Savannah really brought these characters to life. Such a great job telling the final chapters of Chase and Alicia’s story.
Chase and Alicia meet again and comes with some surprises and questions. My heart was full and happy at the end. Kacey Shea did a great job balancing the Angst and love. As always no shortage of family and friend craziness and loyalty. 5 stars across the board.

The narration brought the book to another level

With the way the previous book ended, I didn’t know what to expect. It wasn’t this. It doesn’t mean it wasn’t good though.

Alicia broke up with Chase and ran away because she was afraid he would relapse. And she stay away for three years for the same reason. But she left with a little souvenir. As much as she justifies it, I couldn’t get behind her. It was kind of hypocritical. Sure, she knows something about relapse, since she did, but she has no reason to think she wouldn’t again. And yet it’s the fear of Chase relapsing that keeps her away, while he gave no indication that he would–besides his little slip.

I get that she has a troubled past, and that her present isn’t that good either. But she annoyed me greatly. She had double standard down to an art. With her friends, with Chase’s girlfriend, with her half-sister… She’s so much the center of her own world that she has troubles seeing it from another perspective.

But I still weirdly rooted for her and Chase. Maybe because Chase deserved to be happy, and she was his happiness. He had turned his life around during the time they were apart. His summer with Alicia changed everything for him. The only thing that bothered me was his claim that he had moved on. It was true, he had a girlfriend. But as soon as Alicia is back, it’s like she never left. At least he doesn’t cross the line and becomes a cheater.

Despite all their flaws, I loved them together. They had cute moments when they couldn’t be anything other than friends. The way they acted around Alicia’s kid was also adorable. And once they get together, it’s hot. Finally, I loved the way they were ready to turn they life around–again–to stay together. As I said before, I rooted for them.

The family drama was interesting, but I didn’t feel there was any closure. Either things stayed the same, or they were accepted and the characters just moved along. I don’t think anyone could move on with their life with that much unhealed trauma.

What brought the book to another level? The narration. Both narrators are usually great, and they nailed their character this time. Chase’s cockiness as well as his emotional moments were perfectly expressed by the male narrator, and the female narrator did well with Alicia’s struggles. You can’t help but be moved by them.

Savannah Peachwood & Teddy Hamilton are a hit!

Hi! I am Kacey Shea, the author of the Caught series. I hope you enjoy the conclusion to Chase and Alicia's story, which should be listened to after Caught in the Chase.

Once again, I was swept away by the outstanding narration.

Teddy Hamilton delivers all the feels and Chase's character growth is felt throughout his performance.

Savannah Peachwood reprises her role as Alicia and captures the fears and desires of this character so well.

If you love stellar narration, second chance romance, and a bonus epilogue that will make you swoon, then I think you're going to enjoy this book!

Emotional Conclusion to Alicia and Chase

I made it pretty obvious in my review of the first book that I really didn't like Alicia and I was hoping it would change, unfortunately I still spent about 80% of this book not liking her. My dislike of her had nothing to do with Kacey Shea's writing because she had the ability to bring such realistic characters to life, otherwise I wouldn't care one way or another about any of the characters. Honestly, I don't know why I have such a problem with Alicia... she is human and flawed but it was really hard for me to forgive her while she kept putting blame on other people instead of accepting and taking responsibility for her choices. She claims her mom is living in denial about her alcoholism (she was) but Alicia's entire life is either a denial or a lie. Besides the blame game she also seemed very hypocritical, she claimed honesty is important and how she tries to be an honest person but she was lying to every single characters in the book... things like that really made it hard for me to wish for a happy ending when it came to her. I will cut my ranting on Alicia short (surprisingly I have even more examples of why I don't like her), luckily around the halfway point she stops blaming Chase for all the decisions she made and regrets the secrets she kept for so long.
I am actually really glad that Chase and Alicia were separated at the end of the first book, I may not have like how things went about but Alicia had a great opportunity for the career she wanted and it gave Chase a chance to really focus on changes he wanted to make in his life. Really, Chase was the shining star for me, he changed his life so drastically and I loved the glimpses of how his relationship with his brother and even Callie and Jill have changed. Teddy Hamilton and Savannah Peachwood are both amazing narrators and did a great job bringing the story to life.

Wonderful conclusion!

When Book 3 ended on a cliffy...I didn't quite know what to expect when I started on Caught in Us, book 4. But, author Kacey Shae! You have blown me away. The unexpected twists in this one were…WOW! I don’t want to “spoil” so I am just going to say this was an INCREDIBLE conclusion to this duet. Book (Caught in the Chase) MUST be read before heading into this one.

I am going to say, I wasn’t a huge fan of the heroine (Alicia) in Caught in the Chase…and OMG!!!! I really didn’t like her for the first bit in Caught in Us…but I wanted Chase to have answers and happiness and….I am glad this ended in an HEA! LOL
