In Whispers Leben ist einiges nicht in Ordnung. Als Kind ist er mit schweren Verletzungen und ohne Erinnerungen in einem Waisenhaus zu sich gekommen – vor über 110 Jahren. Seit langer Zeit altert er nicht mehr, kann seinen Hunger nicht stillen und muss von Ort zu Ort wandern, um keine Aufmerksamkeit zu erregen. Seinen Lebensunterhalt bestreitet er mit Diebstählen.
Als er einen Auftrag annimmt, der ihn in den Black Rose Club führt, trifft er auf Cathrin. Zwischen den beiden knistert es sofort, doch Whisper will keine Nähe zulassen; zu viele Geheimnisse stehen zwischen ihm und Cathrin.
