About this listen

Murder, sunken treasure, and pirates both ancient and modern send Doc Ford on a nightmare quest in the thrilling new novel in the New York Times best-selling series.

Marine biologist Doc Ford has been known to help his friends out of jams occasionally, but he's never faced a situation like this.

His old pal Carl Fitzpatrick has been chasing sunken wrecks most of his life, but now he's run afoul of the Florida Division of Historical Resources. Its director, Leonard Nickelby, despises amateur archaeologists, which is bad enough, but now he and his young "assistant" have disappeared - along with Fitzpatrick's impounded cache of rare Spanish coins and the list of uncharted wreck sites Fitz spent decades putting together. Some of Fitz's own explorations have been a little...dicey, so he can't go to the authorities. Doc is his only hope.

But greed makes people do terrible things: rob, cheat, even kill. With stakes this high, there's no way the thieves will go quietly - and Doc's just put himself in their crosshairs.

Critic reviews

“Hats off to White for combining suspense and madcap adventure with such dexterity.... Being an under-the-radar kind of guy, Doc Ford is likely not too happy at the way his adventures keep turning up on best-seller lists, but he’d better deal with it; the trend isn’t about to change.” (Booklist)

Golly it's Doc Ford...

Another chapter in the uber interesting life of this living legend of fiction... Really , all these stories fascinate me not only with the setting and the characters but the sly intrigue that keeps me yearning for the next page.. chapter. Rock On

Another great story and audible performance!

Mr. White is among my favorite authors because he delivers good clean fun and a lot of interesting education with every Doc. Ford adventure. This is no exception!

I finished it, but...

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I finished it but it was a slog. I've always looked forward to White's new books, but this one....After I finished this listening to this one, my husband listened to it in the car on a trip. I was doing other things, but listened to it again. It was like I'd never heard it before. It was no better the second time around. BTW, the trip ended before my husband could finish the book. He wasn't interested in finishing it on my IPOD. Disappointing.

Another great story.

Thoroughly enjoyed this. I rotated between reading the Kindle version and listening to Audio book. The narrator does a great job, but his voice is not the one in my head.

Doc Ford is back in action

Much better than his last few. Better plotted, still a bit sexist. If only Doc Ford could tackle Florida's red rice and green algae problems. Always enjoy the Marine biology. A fun read..

Huge fan of Doc Ford and RW White...

I’ve read every Doc Ford book in the series, as well as many others written by White. I absolutely love them for what they are. I call them airplane books...I love salt water, fly fishing, tarpon, sharks, baseball - I suppose Doc is exactly what I would like to be reincarnated in another life. That’s why this is rough for me to share.

This was my first Doc Ford audio book. I do not know if it was the reader, who is not what Doc has sounded like in my head, or the story that I was not impressed with. This book carried none of the excitement that I’m used to.

I will try another audio book with one of my favorite Doc Ford stories, and try to decide if I should leave this series to my own mind instead of using the ease of audio books.

my least favorite

I've read all the books in the series and this was my least favorite. the storyline the elements how they seem kind of Rush together. half time I couldn't help it, listen or the other reader other person because the way the reader did the voices. I love almost all the other books I was disappointed. I feel like someone was making a deadline

I feel like this book was over edited.

I'm a die hard Randy fan, but this one felt a little choppy. still a fun listen though. if this is your first attempts at Randy White, do the books in order!
