Kathy and Max Montrose are a young couple with a comfortable life. Just in their twenties, Max has a lucrative heavy equipment operating business, and Kathy works as a substitute schoolteacher.

They are doing quite well financially, but have one issue to deal with in that regard: Kathy is a spendthrift.

Recently, when they were going over their bills, Max made an offhand comment to Kathy that he ought to give her a good spanking for her money management problems.
