Acerca de esta escucha

In 1768 Captain James Cook and his crew set out on a small British naval vessel in search of a missing continent. 2020 marks the 250th anniversary of that voyage, and Cook's 'discovery' of Australia. Captain Cook's Epic Voyage reveals the hardships and adventure of this remarkable quest, and the euphoria of discovering new lands. Drawing from his previous book, Sea of Dangers, in Captain Cook's Epic Voyage Professor Geoffrey Blainey takes readers once again on a vivid journey through history, challenging accepted views and the intersection of myth, science and exploration.©2020 Geoffrey Blainey (P)2020 Penguin Random House Australia 18th Century Australia y Oceanía Expediciones y Descubrimientos Fuerzas Armadas Fuerzas Navales Historia y Piratería Marítima Militar Modern Mundial Aventura

Up to date history of Cook’s first voyage. With many added historical facts and bios of other significant persons on the voyage. Reads like an adventure novel. I’m going to see what other books he wrote. Nicely narrated.

Incredibly interesting history

If someone wrote this as fiction, no one would believe that humans were ever as persistent, courageous, curious and adventurous as Captain Cook and those who sailed with him to the other side of the planet, to observe an astronomical event. One of the best navigators of any Navy at the time, he and his crew sailed into unknown waters which at anytime could dash them onto a reef and at times did just that. But luckily for them and the Brittish Empire, those who survived disease, starvation, and the unpredictable seas brought back detailed logs of this fantastic adventure and completed mission. The author did a magnificent job of weaving Cook’s 3-year journey with those of others which were conducted by discoverers of other nations, which happened before and during this “Epic Voyage. “ Although there are many times the narrative drags on a bit and the reader wonders if the ship and crew will ever get out of peril and ever safely return home, the narrator does a wonderful job of maintaining both interest and hope. I almost felt I was on the journey with them, but without the suffering.

No adventure like a true one!
