Tra la fine del 1829 ed i primi mesi del 1830, Leopardi compose la canzone Canto notturno di un pastore errante dell'Asia. Nel comporre tale poesia, Leopardi trasse ispirazione dalla lettura del Voyage d'Orenbourg à Boukhara fait en 1820 del barone russo Meyendorff, nel quale si narrava di come certi pastori dell'Asia centrale, appartenenti alla popolazione Kirghisa, fossero soliti intonare lunghe e dolci nenie rivolgendosi alla luna piena. La canzone, che si articola in sei strofe di ineguale lunghezza, si configura difatti come un dialogo fra un pastore e la luna. Tuttavia il canto si apre con le parole «Che fai tu, luna, in ciel? Dimmi, che fai, silenziosa luna?» Tale sarà infatti l'astro notturno nel corso dell'intero componimento, silenzioso, e il dialogo si configurerà dunque come un lungo e pressante monologo esistenziale del pastore, alla disperata ricerca di risposte al senso di inutilità dell'esistenza.

Beautyfull but with a minor bug.
Is there anything you would change about this book?
There is a mistake in the recording: the story ends at min 7:18 with:
E' funesto a chi nasce il dì natale.
But the recording continues to min 7:40 repeating from the beginnig to the sixth row.
