About this listen

Caleb Kincaid only planned on having a night on the town playing poker. Ma never liked him gambling, and he was starting to understand why. Especially when he ends up winning a hand that will change his life.

Naomi Hudson had hoped to become a mail order bride in order to get away from having to care for her family - namely her pa and two older brothers. But one night when pa is drunk, he gambles away her hand in marriage. It seems that even an older fiancé isn't totally interested in her, since he soon loses her to someone else. Doesn't anyone want to marry her for who she is? Can Naomi find it in her heart to care for a man out of love, especially when he needs her most?

cool

I enjoyed reading Caleb's bride. I like how the brothers have ended up in different situations with their brides.

Another winner!

--I was given a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review

The Mail Order Bride series continues with Caleb, another Kinkaid brother really not looking for marriage. He wins his fiance in a poker game and now doesn't know what to do to get out of it. He turns to his sheriff brother, Marshall for advice. While this is happening, Caleb learns the circumstances of Naomi's arranged marriage and smitten with her decides the best thing to do of course is marry her! She is full of spit and vinegar, a fun woman to get to know. Susette Williams has another winner.

Again, Lawrence Yaklin provides us with a wonderful rendition of the book, very enjoyable.

I Love The Mail Order Bride Series

CALEB'S BRIDE was another great story in the MAIL ORDER BRIDE series. These are relaxing, fun western stories that back in the 1800's, men actually did send or write for potential brides to come west for lack of women in this part of the US. They aren't too long and they're in order. In this story Caleb is Marshall's brother from book 4. I really like Naomi whose father puts her up in a poker game with Caleb and loses. I could picture this actually happening.

Another good one from SUSETTE WILLIAMS!

LAWRENCE D. YAKIN does another terrific job with the narration. he's perfect in these stories. He makes them sound like they should. I really enjoy listening to him with his western style.

Good story

Caen wins his bride in a poker game?
I love this short story. Great angle.
I love the families reaction. You have to read this story.
The narrator was perfect. You would think that a male voice couldn't pull it off. Well he does.

Caleb's Story Book 3 n the Mail Order Bride Series

👤 This is the Book 3 in the Mail Order Bride series. If you plan to read any of the other books, you may not want to read this review as it may contain spoilers.

The last thing on Caleb's mind, when he was sitting down to play poker with the single men in town – instead of hanging out with his brothers and their wives – was winning a bride! But that is exactly what happened,.

Listen to find out what the reluctant Caleb thinks about marrying a woman he doesn't know and whether he goes through with it.

This even includes a shotgun – after church!

Susette Williams' goal is to write short novellas that can be listening to while waiting for kids to get out of school, watching practice, cleaning the house, etc. At just over an hour long, she reaches her goal perfectly with a great story and lots of details that could make for a full-length novel, in my opinion.

*I was gifted the entire series in exchange for my thoughts, opinions and reviews. Thus far the series does not disappoint. I am expecting more excellence as I continue to listen!

A great vocal performance by Lawrence D. Yaklin.

My only complaint, which isn't really a complaint, is that I would love for these to be full length books..

Note: Nothing to warn about in this book – there is a shooting, but the details are not graphic at all.

Same narrator...same simple storytelling

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Same comment as the previous audiobook by Mr. Yaklin. The narrator has a nice voice, but he read the story too fast and not a lot of variety

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Again, same comment as the previous audiobook by Mr. Yaklin. Ms. Williams selection of a different narrator would have made this simple romance into a sweet recommended romance. Ms. Williams tells a nice story, but the narrators for the first 4-5 books were unable to add to the overall experience. It was just simple storytelling (reading from the pages).

What three words best describe Lawrence D. Yaklin’s performance?

Nice voice. Great for telling a story, if the story doesn't need to differentiate between characters.

Any additional comments?
